Pregnancy and weight loss

Morning all. I'm around 5 weeks pregnant with my second and delighted! I have been losing weight for the past 6 months or so and have lost almost 3 stone, I still have another couple to lose but I'm not too sure what to do now I'm pregnant. I know obviously I'm going to put weight on over the next 9 months and am completely okay with that, so shall I just look to maintain where I am for now or can I still lose a little bit more during the first trimester? Can obviously discuss this with my midwife but not due to see her till 3rd April. My BMI is around 34 so assume any further weight loss would still be a good thing for the baby in these early stages?

I think it's always best to try and avoid active weight loss while pregnant. However, nausea and morning sickness can make this unavoidable. From what I've read you are just recommended to gain less weight if your BMI is over 25. As it says in the link below, your midwife will discuss this with you if you have a BMI over 30.

Well done for losing over half of your goal weight loss, I did that earlier last year and it feels so good to have the weight come off. It is not recommended that you diet whilst pregnant. With the first trimester being such a delicate time, I would personally follow this advice and do as much as possible not to disturb your baby.
If you keep to a healthy diet, and you certainly don't need to eat for two, then you should maintain the weight.

Keep to a healthy diet, don’t go overboard eating and keep active (don’t overdo it though) and you’ll probably still lose weight while pregnant. Don’t go on any diets though. Just make healthy choices and don’t overeat. Well done on the weight loss so far.

What strategy have you been using to make the progress you've made so far? Which is amazing by the way!

Choosing healthier options, sensible portion control and continuing whatever exercise you are used to will all still be healthy in pregnancy so are safe continue, as you say losing a bit more weight will be beneficial for your pregnancy and later your delivery too.

Thanks everyone! I'll stick to healthy eating and keeping active in that case but try not to obsess about it. In my first pregnancy I was heavier than I am now, and put on 2 stones so wouldn't want to put on any more than that.

@SouthwestSis I've been on Slimming World - I know it's not a popular choice with many and doesn't have the best reputation but it has worked well for me, I feel a lot healthier and still get a varied diet.
