Hey, I had an emergency c section and it was still amazing. The surgeons were making jokes, the anesthetist was holding my hand and it was a really calm happy surgery (and it was an emergency so I wasn't expecting this)

It really is a positive surgery rather than a negative one for a broken bone or something, everyone in the room is excited and saying things like "ooo let's meet your baby" etc...

Try to stay calm, easier said than done I know and look at it more of a birth than a surgery as it doesn't feel the same as a "surgery" (I know that sounds so stupid)

And... its over so fast. My daughter took 2 minutes and 10 seconds to be delivered once I was on the table. Once they are out you watch them get cleaned off, weighed, little tags on their feet and you get to hold them. It's so surreal and your so focused on baby you forget what's happening.

Best of luck and congrats! 😊

How exciting!! My elective section was 7 months ago and it was honestly such an amazing experience!

Everything was so relaxed, we walked down to theatre laughing with the midwives. Everyone in theatre was so lovely, they even asked me if I had music preference or wanted to play my own music when I went in! My daughter was out within about 5 minutes of starting the procedure and then it took maybe 45 mins-an hour to finish off, but it honestly felt like 10 mins because I was just in my baby bubble.

Ask for help when you need it and don't push yourself. Best of luck 🥰

Hope it went well and you’re recovering okay 😊

Thanks everyone for your reassurance! Baby girl born this morning - had such a positive experience and wouldn’t change it at all!

@LifeOfRiley1 huge congratulations 💖

DCxx · 15/03/2023 22:19

@LifeOfRiley1 congratulations! It was the best day of my life by far 😊 the 5 days after it were a bit tricky to get out of bed etc but take it very easy and you’ll be fine. You’ll be amazed how well you feel by a week and then 2 weeks after. You expect at first never to feel normal again 🙈

I gave up and slept kind of propped up in my pregnancy pillow after the first night. It was such a horrible feeling wriggling about trying to get myself up without sitting up so sleeping propped up became easier!

How beautiful! I just found out that I am pregnant (first time) today, I came across your post when searching for c-section in the forum and your comment brought tears to my eyes. I know I need to have a C-section because of my medical history. May I ask which hospital was this? (keeping my fingers crossed that it's somewhere in London). I feel very lost as to which hospital self-refer myself. We have recently moved to North East London and I don't have any local connections to assess the available options. I have had both horrendous and awesome experiences with different NHS hospitals in the past. So, I really want to make an informed decision. I would appreciate any recommendations.

So happy for you! Was this hospital by any chance in London? I am going to have a c-section too and I am just trying to understand my options better before choosing the birth hospital.

LifeOfRiley1 · 13/04/2023 19:40

@aaidaa it was a hospital in Scotland! Happy to answer any questions you have if it helps you!

How exciting! I had 4 sections, 2 emergency and 2 planned. Baby is born really quickly and you will be able to hold them if you wish (or partner will) whilst you are being sewn up. You will be taken to recovery afterwards to be monitored and then to a ward. If you are having a spinal block you will have a catheter, not nice but necessary. Accept pain relief and make sure you have some at home too. Take it easy sitting up and getting out of bed but try and do it as soon as you can. Laughing, coughing and sneezing can be a bit uncomfortable just put a pillow over your tummy and hold onto it for a bit of reassurance. Wishing you a lovely, happy birth and congratulations in advance.

KateC1x1 · 14/04/2023 11:21

@aaidaa congrats!
it was a hospital in North Wales. But most c section stories are generally very similar to mine regardless of hospital.
Happy to answer any questions if I can help xx
