Inducing labour

Hey everyone, I was wondering if anyone has any tips or things that helped induce their labour, I have to be induced at 38 weeks for medical reasons and have been given the go ahead to try any ways to induce labour I'd like, I was advised to pump twice a day, bounce on a ball as much as I can, go on long walks, have sex and I'll be given a few sweeps, was also told I could try raspberry leaf tea but they also said that doesn't really induce labour as much as it does supposedly help once you're in labour. TIA

I tried all the old wives tales and nothing worked. Your body needs oxytocin to be able to signal the start of labour so you need to be happy and relaxed. Get a massage from your partner, watch a comedy, have a warm bath, midwife even recommended a small glass of wine right at the end. Just get lots of happy hormones flowing and avoid stress so your body knows it’s safe to start labour.

I’ve heard reflexology can help! My sister had it on her due date and went into labour the same evening. Possibly coincidence but I’m going to give it a try!

Hi @Georgia2609 , I will be induced at 38 weeks aswell (or have a c section, haven’t decided yet). I am following for any helpful tips to support this!

From internet research I am going to try

  • raspberry leaf tea
  • Indian takeaway (any excuse really!)
  • eat dates for the weeks running up to it
  • bouncing on the ball
  • lots of walks

I know sex will be suggested but I don’t think I can face it, I have never felt less sexy than I do right now at 31 weeks pregnant 😂

@Sallyh87 just remember raspberry leaf should be started around 32 weeks starting with 1 cup a day and gradually increasing up to 4 cups a day. It doesn’t start labour but it tones the uterus and makes contractions stronger so labour shorter. I used with both of mine and had short labours so I recommend it. It shouldn’t be used if having a c section though. I tried dates but they’re awful and didn’t do anything. Indian only works if it’s spicy and that’s because it irritates the bowels which can trigger labour, but then you have the risk of a really bad Indian poo happening during labour which was never worth the risk for me 😂

walking sideways up stairs is supposed to be good too as is clary sage oil. But didn’t do anything for me

Thanks so much @Twoinapod , that’s really useful info. I will hold off for another few weeks on the raspberry leaf until I decide on the c section.

Sadly, I only like the plainer items in an Indian meal like Korma so that probably won’t do any good! May still order it anyway as it’s delicious 😋

@Twoinapod I've been drinking it since 32 weeks and I just read it should be 100% red raspberry leaf tea and what I've been drinking isn't, do you think it was useless drinking it? I'll attach a pic of what I've been drinking

I second reflexology. I went into labour after the treatment too.

Twoinapod · 11/03/2023 23:41

@Georgia2609 thats what I used with my second and had a 3.5 hour labour. So it still works I’d say. You can always take capsules. I used to take half tea half capsules just to cover all bases 😂
