I'm struggling with teaching for 2 hours (or more) in early pregnancy (very early at mo) How did other people cope? Is there anything you can ask your employers for? Any advice or tips gratefully received.

ignore your colleagues, this pregnancy and your wellbeing is more important then what they think.

LOL @ moaning about something else! I work with a bunch of childless women/men who have no idea about pregnancy and juggling the demands of a child and work... but that's another thread

Milf, m'dear, if you'd wanted to work with people who were very clued up about the real world, academia should perhaps not have been top of your list? And I say that with much fondness for my academic colleagues (and DH!).

Yes that is true, they are an eclectic bunch

milf- sorry, I've not read all the posts, but I lecture a 1 three hour block and when they did my risk assessment, they said I had to sit down to lecture. I like it to be honest. So I always sit down now (I got really lightheaded one time when i didn't). I'm also finishing at 31 weeks.

They are unhappy well tough for them it's either that or have you off work sick because you are unwell and cannot cope then they would have more work to do. They will get over it it's just a pity they have to act like children in a playground (I was a nurse and they were just as bad BTW my boss called it the hate hat there was always someone wearing it)

As a pregnant mature student particularly early on I was been demanding the windows be open sitting there in shirt sleeves while others were in coats it was that or have me chuck up and keel over. I also ate in lessons although we were not supposed to but I really needed to just keep eating, I even had a sneaky nibble in the library when I was working in there when no one was looking I also had to change my lectures a little as I got so tired doing a full day I spent all the following day asleep.

YOur colleagues are going to feel so rotten when you are able to tell them your good news! At least I hope they are....

Just ignore the miserable buggers - tbh you would be perfectly justified asking your GP to sign you off for a few weeks - as it is you are soldiering on and they can just lump it!

milfAKAmonkeymonkeymoomoo · 25/02/2008 21:03

I was sent a particularly evil email today suggesting that whatever the problem was I was probably making it up and I wasn't acting in the best interests of my students Hope they will eat some humble pie if/when I get to the safe stage!

Feeling better for the changes made I really appreciate the support on here too.
