Telling manager I’m pregnant

It’s getting closer to me having to tell my manager I am pregnant.

why do I feel so nervous?? Did anyone else feel the same?

I think me being only 26 is making me a bit more anxious about things as I’m worried about the judgement. I know it will be fine after I’ve told them but I am just trying to build myself up to do it.

It can be nerve wracking but try and reframe it as being a useful thing to do - that way they can do a risk assessment, make sure you’re not doing anything at work which isn’t good for pregnancy like heavy lifting etc, and if you have sickness or other symptoms you suffer with then they understand why you might need a sick day or at least a moment away from your desk/working area.

Best to rip the plaster off and then it’s done. You only have to do it once.

and 26 definitely isn’t too young!

I know it can be a nervous time, but if your manager is a good manager, they should congratulate you, say a few nice things about it, then set out a plan for work. It is good to go in with a sense of what you could want your mat leave to look like. You don't have to make them promises, but it can be helpful for them to think about the impact on work flow etc..

It is good, exciting news, and I really hope that your manager is wise enough to treat it that way!

I finally had to tell my manager at 14 weeks as it was simply no way to hire it from workers anymore. I had to do it over the phone as don't see her at all, as always she was very professional and warm, I knew she would handle this professionally without stupid comments and enthusiasm....unlike my assistant manager, older single guy. I see him more often but he can be funny and often don't know how to talk to people when unhappy about something and he is moody most of time anyway lol. So if you have choice who to tell I would pick up person who you know handle it better and is more professional.

Apparently I will need risk assesments every 2 weeks....is it new law now? My job is not physical at all, just sitting on my bum most of the time. I remember while ago in previous company there was only risk assesment at the beginning.

It's because there is a massive stigma associated with pregnancy these days. If your manager is any good, they will appreciate the long term benefits of having a baby. You will learn sooooo much that when you go back to worth you will be a better employee :)
