this my first baby and I am 30 weeks pregnant I am just thinking ahead to whenever I am out and about as she is due beginning of summer, if I ever take her out and about I am worrying she might get too hot, should I get a cooling mat to put in her pram? Or I was thinking of getting her one of those portable fans and fixing it so it blows the cool air on her also her pram comes with a shade net thingy as well obviously I will be dressing her in cool clothing but it says on Google babies are really bad at regulating their temp I just don’t want her to over heat also I have no air conditioning in my house it gets really hot I have one of those air cooling machines I got from a friend it does cool one room at a time if I close the door but what if it makes it too cool for her and she then becomes cold, what can I do about that please like what is the best way to maintain the correct temperature? Sorry if these questions are stupid I just want my baby to be comfortable

First of all try to relax! you seem possibly over worried about this. If baby is too cold they will cry, so that's how you know. The general advice is that they should wear one more later than you feel comfortable in. DD was born in July and we had a heat wave when she was 2-4 weeks. She spend that time in just a nappy and/or vest and whilst uncomfortable and sticky it was perfectly fine. I would think a cooling mat is not a good idea, I think that would make it even harder for them to regulate on their own. We had a sheepskin liner in the pram for her to lie on, it wicks the sweat away and keeps them cool in summer and warm in winter so I would recommend that. If you're still worried when baby comes then your health visitor will also be able to advise, but in general try not to panic

You are in the UK aren’t you? 🙈

My baby was born late summer but it was just before a heat wave. During the day was fine. He’d chill in the pram with it all open and would wear a vest or vest and shorts. I have bought one of those fans on holiday when he was a bit older and it’s worth getting if it’s going to make you feel better or if it’s properly hot. It’s more night time when they’re sleeping that I worried more about over heating. I always had him in a swaddle for the first few weeks but during the heatwave I couldn’t do that. I got one of those tommee yippee gro bags (I think they’re called), just like a sleeping bag but for a newborn and it was very light and his arms were out so he slept in that in vest on the hottest nights. I’d keep his curtains shut to keep sunlight out and had an egg thermometer for his room. Luckily summer in the UK only lasts a few days usually! I’m sure you’ll be fine

My eldest was born in a heatwave, she wore just a nappy in the day and then a vest at night. My other 2 summer babies lived in vests and short rompers. Cell blankets and large muslins are really good.

We cooled the room down with a large fan - never had it pointing directly at them though otherwise I think they would of got cold.
