Can you have abnormal cells in cervix removed during c-section?

I am having a c-section and have found out from an abnormal smear result and colposcopy that I have some dodgy cells in there that will need removed. I’m terrified of the pain of the whole thing so was wondering if they were able to do it during my c-section since they’re down there and I’m numb anyway? 🙈 I’m going to ask but just wanted to see if anyone had ever had this before as I know you can lots of other things done in that region during it! I wouldn’t have thought so. As c sections tend to get you in and out and removing cells would involve getting you in stirrups and taking their time to get the right cells. Fwiw I’ve had abnormal cells removed and it really wasn’t that bad. There’s a little pinch sensation as they put in the anaesthetic and after that you don’t feel anything, you get a bit of bleeding after but no pain. The worst part for me was a few minutes in realising although I’d shaved downstairs I’d completely forgotten to shave my legs, only realised when the nurse commented on my leg tattoo. I still want to die every time I think about it 🤦‍♀️😂

@Twoinapod i did think that when they didn’t suggest it. Was just hoping it get it all over with in one go! Haha oh no 😂 I’m sure they’ve seen a lot worse! I think it’s more the biopsy part that I’ve heard worse things about but I will maybe just ask to be given the local anaesthetic regardless.. more worried about that than having the actual baby!

@GHxx i had a biopsy as well, but again it was fine, they did give the anaesthetic before the biopsy and then asked if I wanted them to remove the cells then and there so I didn’t have to come back so I said yes to get it all done. Honestly you don’t need to worry, it’s not painful at all just awkward. My friend had the same done and she said the same. Not painful just awkward.

@Twoinapod thats great thank you. Can I ask, do you have any children? Did you have any after the procedure and did your friend? This is our second so we’re most likely finished at that but I just wonder if the urge to have a third might appear a few years down the line and I’ve seen a few things about pre-term birth risks, especially if they need to take a larger amount of cells away

@GHxx i had it done after my first. During my second pregnancy I had to have regular scans to measure the length of my cervix as there is a chance it could go too short, in which case I’d have needed a stitch put in. Thankfully I didn’t need one, it was lovely getting to see baby so often too. I’m currently 6 weeks with my third and I imagine I will need extra scans again. My friend had the cells detected just before she got pregnant with her second and found out the day she went for the procedure so they didn’t do it until 3 months after the birth. She’s now pregnant with her third and is having the extra scans too.

@Twoinapod aw that’s good you have both managed to have pregnancies after it! Congratulations on this one 😊 maybe I’ll be okay to have a third if I end up wanting one then!

@GHxx yeah you’ll be fine if you wanted another, if there’s an issue they’ll just put the stitch on your cervix to help you carry to term. Hope everything goes smoothly with your c section and congratulations on your pregnancy 😊
