Anemia and risks of PPH?

My partner has been told she's anaemic. I don't know the exact details but her level was "8" at one point. Three weeks ago, when she was 35 weeks pregnant, she had an iron infusion and was told she "shouldn't need another".

She's having a planned a C-section in just over a week. Will the infusion help her? What type of iron would it have been? She still looks pale to me and she's been taking Floradix twice daily. I've been doing a bit of reading and I am very nervous about postpartum haemorrhage. Many thanks.

Sounds like fairly standard management. IV iron takes a couple of weeks to make a difference to the numbers. They'll be repeating bloods a few days pre-op so will be able to plan for whether cross-matched blood/cell salvage etc is needed.

Likely that was her ferritin level at 8 which is the iron 'stores' and that is low but she should feel better soon. I had two before my section. I was also a high risk for PPH as I was on a very high level of blood thinners for a suspected pulmonary embolism. I had very minimal bleeding. Best of luck! I'm sure all will be fine and she feels better when she can 'reclaim' her body

I always need IV iron towards the end of pregnancy and I'v never had a PPH, in fact I'v suffered minimal bleeding.

As pp said they'll test before the section and might decide to have blood on standby, they'll also test post section. If they're still low they'll advise you on if another n
