Unable to have non invasive Down syndrome screening due to one twin passing away? Anyone has this or heard of it?

Hey
I just had my 10 week scan and there’s an issue with the screening for Down syndrome. Originally I was pregnant with twins and one has passed away but the sac is still present so basically there saying I can’t have the non invasive screening as it will be inaccurate due to the other twin still being present and not having reabsorbed yet?
has anyone been in the position?
the babies were in 2 complexity different sacs so I don’t see why they can do the normal ultrasound screening to check the measurement on the babies neck after 11 weeks? I asked and I got the answer we don’t know it’s the guidelines it says we can’t…I also got told doing the blood test will be inaccurate as it could show down syndrome for either twin (if one had it or both) so I would need CVS to confirm anyway - but again if the result was low then that would be for both twins means I didn’t need the cvs unless I wanted to know 100% but aparently they can’t do that because the other twin has passed….I feel like im
being forced to chose between no screening which isn’t an option for me or having to have the invasive CVS test which yes has low miscarriage rate but it’s still there and it’s taken me so long to get pregnant it seems like a big risk when there not even willing to try the non invasive stuff first just so I can make an informed decision if it wa so conclusive then we would have to decide.

any thoughts? Has this happened to anyone?

xx

Can you go to a private clinic and ask them to do the NT measurement, they're usually a lot more flexible.

Sorry for your loss

I’m sorry that you’re in this situation and that they haven’t explained it to you better.

The non invasive prenatal test (NIPT) works by taking a sample of your blood, and then looking for your baby’s DNA in it, and whether it has the marker for Down’s syndrome. As you will have the DNA of both babies in your blood, they won’t be able to tell conclusively that your surviving baby does or doesn’t have Down’s syndrome. The NT test is unlikely to change at a private clinic unless a mistake has been made.
