early scan no embryo + small hematoma

Hello, this is my first post here...

I went for a scan yesterday at the EPU as I had some light brown bleeding. My LMP was 06/01/23 making me just about 7/8 weeks, although my cycles are very long (typically 5-6 weeks) and we can date conception to end of January - so not sure how many weeks that actually makes me.

I was told I have a small hematoma which has caused the bleeding, and we're hoping it will resolve itself. From the transvaginal scan they could see the gestational sac and yolk sac, but no embryo. I have to go back in two weeks for a follow up scan. The doctor told me it might be too early to see the embryo,, because of my longer cycles, or it could end up being a MMC. They'll be able to tell if it's viable when I go back. Has anyone else with longer cycles experienced this? I'm pretty anxious about it and it feels like the next two weeks will be a very long wait :(

@unehirondelle I think with your long cycles you might only just be 6 weeks, I haven’t had this personally my mmc was further along but I’ve seen loads of stories of people who are just measuring a bit behind and baby is all okay! 6 weeks is still really early! Sending you lots of love for the next 2 weeks the waiting must be so hard!

Hey, I went through the exact same thing in November.
I was 6+4, went for a scan with bleeding in EPU and no baby or yolk sack just an empty gestational sack.
I went back 10 days later and there was the baby exact to my origional dates. No idea where they were hiding
Don't lose hope yet. I have everything crossed for you xx

I had the exact same situation as you - I was taken into the EPU around week 6-7 due to cramping. No sign of yolk but clearly a sack, and also a haematoma which had caused the pains I had been having.

I was told to come back 2 weeks later, and was nothing but a bag of nerves in between. When we went back, I saw the flicker of the heartbeat - it was just too early the time before.

No one here can reassure you either way - but remember that the odds are on your side. It's scary but try to remain optimistic until you know either way. I wish I could have taken my own advice, but it would have helped my mental health far more than all the panicking I did.

I'm so glad it worked out for you, and I hope your pregnancy is going well! Thank you for your kind words xx

That must have been a huge relief, I'm so happy for you! I completely relate to what you're saying about the impact on mental health. It's as though nothing else is really happening. Thank you for sharing your experience and your advice. I'll try to follow it xx

Hello, thank you so much for checking in. The scan was yesterday. The hematoma is still there, but there was also a tiny foetus with a strong heartbeat. We are so relieved, words cannot describe it. Being able to read these messages was what kept me going whilst waiting. Lots of love to anyone reading this x

Ah what a relief!! They saw mine when I went back 2 weeks later at about 8 weeks and I just had my 12 week scan where they said it’s been reabsorbed and no sign of it so I have my fingers crossed the same for you! Well done and take it easy xx
