Is it normal to be this exhausted, and ravenous?

It's my first time pregnancy, I don't have many friends that have had babies, either. While I've had exhaustion throughout the pregnancy, I'm now 24 weeks and falling asleep 2-3 times a day. If I didn't have anything to get me up, I could easily sleep for 14-15 hours at night waking up every few hours for a bathroom break. I am also very hungry, almost like I have the munchies when I am awake. I am transferring midwives and my last one was impossible to get in contact with so I won't be seeing her until week 28 so ask questions about whether it's normal. Anyone else had the same? :/

I'm 24 weeks and the exact same. I was a size 6 before getting pregnant and a very light eater and now I eat more than my DP who's 19.5 stone in muscle...constantly hungry and it comes on all of a sudden. As for the tiredness it's the same I went to work (usually work from home) on Thursday and I mean on Friday I literally had to take off work because I couldn't lift my head off the pillow with sheer tiredness.

I'm 30 weeks so a bit further along but definitely relate to the tiredness. I've had zero symptoms throughout pregnancy (which sounds amazing but puts you in panic mode constantly 😅) but recently I've been taking afternoon naps when I can (advantage of working from home) and like Mamma2bee, when I went into the office once I basically slept all of Saturday to recover.

I think the hunger is normal too so don't worry too much. Hope your new midwife is better. I've just moved to a new area / new hospital / new midwife and it's been interesting to see just how different the services are in different areas!

@Mamma2bee I'm the same. I was about a size 8 before pregnancy, and I've piled on so much weight because the hunger is so much! :/ Struggling to even do chores at the moment, just want to stay in bed most days because of how tired I am.

@everynamewastaken You're very lucky you've had no symptoms, I feel like I've been through the ringer! I've transferred to a new area too and so far it's been great but not met my consultant or midwife yet but operates very different despite being only being 45 minutes away from each other! I hope the tiredness gets better for you soon 😊

Totally normal. I recommend fruit and fibre cereal, it's really satisfying - I used to get up at 3am for a bowl of the stuff!

I felt tired all the time when I was pregnant. I couldn’t get enough sleep. I think it’s fairly normal.

CarbunclesAreUncles · 08/04/2023 21:31

My god I was STARVING throughout my pregnancies! I was doing a physical job (worked with horses) to be fair but I woke up starving and stayed ravenous throughout the day. I think my record was 6 slices of toast for breakfast.

Maybe a bacon and egg sandwich for lunch along with a portion of fish and chips, huge dinner… I wasn’t just eating for the sake of it, I was properly desperately hungry.

I had huge babies unsurprisingly!

@CarbunclesAreUncles Mine is on the small side. Her abdominal growth is only the 7th percentile. Head is 90th, though. Despite me gaining a good bit of weight hers hasn't caught up sadly. Feeling reassured it's normal to be this ravenous, though. It's a bit less than it was now but still desperately hungry in the morning!

Totally normal but some things to consider: make sure you have your iron levels checked to rule out anaemia, which can make you very tired.
And do make sure to have a good quality protein with every meal. Meat, fish, eggs, quinoa. This will help you stay fuller for longer. Choose healthy snacks like nuts, yogurt with fruit, veggie sticks with hummus.
I'm 32 weeks along and still very hungry and tired. Have definitely gained much more weight than with my first pregnancy but I'm just accepting it's what my body needs, as long as I manage to go for a walk every day and eat a semi-healthy diet (chocolate craving galore this time!). Last time I lost all the weight within 3 months post partum so I don't stress. Enjoy this special time as much as you can and look after yourself x

@UnicornRainbowSky thank you :) my iron levels are JUUUUUST over the normal line despite taking it every day, I think the cut-off is 30 and mine is 32. I've tried to incorporate some red meat but craving sweet stuff all the time. i'm also 32 weeks and really looking forward to getting my body back, fed up of feeling so lousy (and fat!) x
