Hello, I am hoping someone can help me. My immediate manager is aware I'm pregnant, I'm currently 10 weeks and 2 days but I'm now suffering terribly with nausea, I've been off this week and my immediate manager has been on A/L so I've had to report to my managers manager who isn't aware and I'm not yet comfortable telling her (we have been asking for 1.5years for a pay rise as we are grossly underpaid) I have a sick line for this week. I see no reason my managers manager needs to see the sick line as both myself and my manager return next week and I can technically self cert anyway. Surely this can be kept between my manager and our HR department?

Just go to HR. They can help.

You don't need to tell her the reason behind your sickness. Just that you're not well.

You can also request to speak to a different manager if you feel more comfortable doing so.

Its not an unreasonable request. Some people feel more comfortable with speaking to specific people. Your workplace should understand that.

If your return to work is to be conducted by your normal manager then leave it as it it.

I expect they will need to tell their manager sooner rather than later though, as a pregnancy support plan needs to be put in place, which includes health and safety.

Also to add, you can't be penalised for pregnancy related sickness.

Pregnancy is covered under the equality act 2010.

The only thing they can do, is force you once early maternity leave once youre in the 3rd trimester, but only if they don't think you're well enough to work.

Thank you @PazzyPaz that is why my docs gave me the line so that my work recorded it as such as they can be tight on sickness otherwise and I've struggled through weeks of vomiting without time off they pushed me a bit more and gave me the sick line...

If you're able to self cert for 7 days, then you don't need to show it to the manager.

If they push you, just tell them no, you don't need to as it's within the first 7 days of absence, but if you need more time off, you'll get a sick note and let them know.

They can't put this against your absence record, if it's pregnancy related. They're not allowed to by law.

I suffer with hormonal migraines and since being pregnant, they've increased even more so.
My ops manager drove me home today because I didn't feel safe.
Your workplace should support you and if not, then theres steps you can take.
