Nausea without vomiting . Hyperemesis Gravidarium?

I'm 12 weeks today and suffering with horrendous nausea 24 hours a day. It's quite debilitating. The only time I don't feel very ill is while I'm eating! Before and after comes dreadful nausea. It seems to be getting worse as the weeks go in rather than better.

Can anyone offer any advice or experiences? Could it be hyperemesis gravidarum without vommiting?

I don't know but I am experiencing the exact same thing! I'm 11+4 and feel nauseous day and night although it's worse come evening. Hopefully now you're past the 12wk mark you'll start to feel better ❤️‍🩹

Same here. Somone else posted feeling the same and had said boiled sweets or mint humbugs had helped a bit with keeping the nausea feeling at bay. Just try and make sure you have a list of foods you know you can manage and keep them handy. At the moment for me fruit seems to be the go to food.
Also try peeling some ginger and popping it into a mug with hot water. Ginger tea works a bit for me.

Otherwise hope it eases away for you. Your not alone though.

I don't think it would be
hyperemesis gravidarum without vommiting, spoke to midwife about it and she said sometimes it happens where the sick feeling doesn't really go away and you just need to eat little and often, and yet to stay hydrated.

She did get me some anti sickness tablets prescribed though. It might be worth getting some and using them when you feel really really sick?

I had this but it’s starting to ease a bit now (I’m 13+3). I had to get tablets from the doctors it got so bad at one point and on my medical record it is down as HG even though I wasn’t sick at all.

I have hyperemesis. It comes with nausea and vomiting so much that I need hospital admittance for my severe dehydration and IV anti sickness meds. It's horrific. I've been to hospital 6 times in the last 2/3 weeks

Just wanted to add for anyone else that reads this in the future that HG without vomiting is 100% real with some reporting its just as bad or worse than with vomiting as vomiting can give temporary relief. Everyone's experience is different and it can be called dry HG. Have a look at the pregnancy sickness website for more information.

Whataretheodds · 07/07/2023 09:42

HG can be dry but if you're able to eat and drink normally then you don't have HG.

I have the same as you OP. I wake up in the middle of the night feeling sick.

I find symptoms are worse when I'm tired and if I haven't had fresh air/moved about. I try to eat little and often, alway have crackers in my bag but also finding mints and mint tea/lemon squash helpful. I have found microwave rice to be a godsend.

Nhs website has some recommendations

I also spoke to my GP and got a prescription which is safe but I was scared to try it because it made my friend very tired and I'm already very tired, needing to sleep during the day. I've taken it in the evening, hard to know if it's helped yet but worth a try too.

It can be deeply unpleasant and is indeed a form of hyperemesis, but the real problems with HG start when the woman gets dehydrated and undernourished. So long as the nausea isn't stopping you eating and drinking, you should be able to avoid the most serious complications. I found lying flat and eating the things I was craving little and often helped me feel less nauseous.

TakeMe2Insanity · 07/07/2023 09:44

I had this in my son’s pregnancy. It was horrible. At the time (a while ago) the gp said he’d give me anti emetics if I vomited even once. I had this in a subsequent pregnancy a couple of years later and was prescribed anti emetics. Nothing else to add other than I totally empathise and it is real. The hardest part for me was trying to stay hydrated so what ever it takes, if ice lollies work then have them!

Sunnysunbun · 07/07/2023 09:46

I had it with all my pregnancies. I found the only thing that helped was eating little and often. Rich tea biscuits and ginger anything. I got some ginger cordial which I sipped. Sorry it's grim.

I know this is an old post but Choccie and OP, did yours ease off? I'm 11+4 and have CONSTANT nausea. Signed off work. The evenings are AWFUL.

chocciebiscuits · 25/02/2024 20:52

Yes it did get better! So sorry you're experiencing it Alis. It did last until about 14wks but then definitely got better after that. Really hope you feel better soon, it should start to ease off now you're approaching 12 wks x

Thank you so much for replying. You've made me feel better. I appreciate it. Hope everything has gone well for you!! X
