Maternity Pay / Leave - Question

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone would mind sharing the length of full paid maternity cover their company offers and the size of the organisation (ie 100 employees, 250, etc)

OP posts:

6 months full, charity that looks after historic buildings, upwards of 300 staff and more seasonally.

wintersun21 · 19/02/2023 18:26

18 weeks full pay for me

firsttimelondonmummy · 19/02/2023 18:57

6 months full pay.
Around 90-100 employees in the UK.
I’m in FMCG, specifically spirits.

Houseelf90 · 19/02/2023 19:07

Our “enhanced” mat policy is 8 weeks full pay….they pride themselves on things like this but looking at previous posters it’s really nothing to be proud of 🤣
I’d say at a guess there are around 300 employees.

Justhopeful · 19/02/2023 19:29

Wow, some great packages above. Mine is 6 weeks 90% pay and SMP after that. Charity organization and maybe 60 employees.

CityKity · 19/02/2023 19:37

Very jealous of some of the above packages, although grateful to get enhanced leave at all I suppose.

Mine is 8 weeks 100%, 4 weeks 90%, 6 weeks 50%, then SMP.
From a tech company of around 400 that prides itself on promoting women in STEM 😅

Cdoc · 19/02/2023 19:44

18 weeks full pay, large accounting firm 15,000+ U.K. employees. 6 months full is brilliant!

Deut28 · 19/02/2023 20:19

6 months full pay after working there a year. Civil service.

Moni81 · 19/02/2023 20:26

Enhanced maternity pay doesn't depend on size of company, it's perk, some companies are generous others less so. Also it can depend on position. I work for large hotel chain and it's 13 weeks full pay min 2 year of service for general stuff, but some managers get 6 months. Lots of big companies offer just SSP so it's really up to your company and contract.

Sallyh87 · 19/02/2023 20:57

6 weeks 90%, 12 weeks 50%. Local government.

Terrible maternity, decent pension though 😂

EsmeSusanOgg · 19/02/2023 21:33

6 months full. 3 months SMP. Large public sector.

LaVitesse2022 · 19/02/2023 21:39

Mine is 4 months full pay and 5 SMP. Charity sector, just over 10 employees

firsttimelondonmummy · 19/02/2023 21:56

Sorry I forgot to mention the SMP.
It’s 6 months full, 6 months SMP.

FirstTimeTryer93 · 19/02/2023 23:10

6 weeks 90% of my usual wage, then 33 weeks SMP. I work at Greggs, 23000 employees x

VictoriaBlossom · 19/02/2023 23:40

My company was 6 weeks at 90% and then SMP.
I said I wouldn't join the business unless they offered 9 months full pay.

So I have 9 months full pay but they said they'd extend to 12 months if I wanted to work part time to support the business

and found out I was pregnant on Tuesday.

I love my job, and really devoted to the company, whether that changes when I've had a baby I don't know but as their head of sales, they will struggle without my input and they know it

Izzie94x · 20/02/2023 09:40

I work in Local Government! For us it’s -
6 weeks full pay, SMP after that. We do however get occupational maternity pay for 12 weeks (starts after your 6 weeks) and that’s half pay. So depending on salary. Which is a nice little bonus, but I’m saving (or trying anyway!!!) £400 a month to allow myself some spends whilst on maternity leave. Thanks to IVF DH and I have loans galore lol but we’ll manage I guess 😂😂

DandelionPockets · 20/02/2023 09:47

3 months at 90%, 3 months at 50%, then SMP. I also get a £300 maternity payment via the workplace health benefit done through Westfield Health.
Engineering company of around 200 employees.

Justhopeful · 19/02/2023 19:29

That is statutory minimum! My firm had the same.

thedust · 20/02/2023 10:40

14 weeks full pay then SMP for 25 weeks. Arms length body, 500 employees.

leanneb94 · 20/02/2023 10:50

13 Weeks full pay, 13 weeks half pay, 13 weeks SMP, 13 unpaid. Not sure on size of company but relatively big

Imisscoffee2021 · 20/02/2023 11:26

I forgot SMP too, so it's 6 minths full, 3 months SMP then nada but you do get hols added up so that works out another 1.5 months pay ish . Crazy how different they all are!

ireneadler101 · 20/02/2023 13:17

I get 6 months full pay (recently upgraded from 5 months) then SMP. My husband also gets the same! We both work in insurance for big companies with over 1000 employees. Both of our policies have recently been enhanced (my husband got 4 weeks for our last baby).

Hankthehonk · 20/02/2023 17:24

Wow some of you are getting wonderful support, I'm so glad to see it. I work for a very small charity, only 11 staff, and get the basic rate of 6 weeks 90% then 33 weeks SMP. We're having to save like crazy so I can manage to take a year off, I went back too early last time and massively regretted it. This will be my last pregnancy and mat leave so I am taking my full entitlement even though financially it will be very challenging.
I wish that my employer had more progressive policies, as we spend our time advocating around wellbeing issues so it's a bit ironic, but our funding margins are very slim.
