Hey all. 29 y/o here 7-8 weeks pregnant and with a huge phobia of vomiting. Growing up I suffered with a condition called Cyclical Vomiting Syndrome [ www.nhs.uk/conditions/cyclical-vomiting-syndrome/ ] which lasted from age of 4 until my late teens. I'm absolutely frightened of it I cannot explain how the sensation of nausea or actually vomiting makes me feel. So far I've had nausea all day everyday for a couple weeks but tonight has been horrendous to the point where I will struggle to eat or drink. And now this time it involves a baby :( anyone else have a fear like me and any tips for how to cope? Are there any meds out there which will not cause any issues with the baby? Thank you.

I've just read the link. You poor, poor thing. It sounds utterly horrendous and I'm not surprised it has traumatised you. Have you spoken to your midwife or GP about how this is making you feel? I think they will understand completely and want to support your mental health and wellbeing, which is so important during pregnancy. There are drugs you can safely take to manage the nausea in pregnancy. Please talk to them. Sending hugs.

I'm the same , I hate vomiting. It's an awful feeling. Maybe ask your doctor for some anti nausea medication. It might help?

I also have Cyclical Vomiting Syndrome and have had it since i was 11. I am 30 now and 20 weeks pregnant currently and before i got pregnant I went into remission for over a year so hoped i would be fine… then 13-14 weeks into pregnancy came and it seems my episodes are back! That dark cloud has come back and since December i have had a further 3-4 episodes and absolutely no help from my medical team!

im really glad to hear you outgrew yours because I felt so many times i also outgrew it but i never do! Im really hoping the pregnancy hormones are to blame for my vomiting right now and hope to be okay again once i give birth but right now… im in that depressed placed once again!

@Tropicaliyes I'm so so sorry that you still suffer with this debilitating illness. My heart absolutely breaks for you 💔 it's not spoken about enough and the physical and psychological impact is undescribable. I think you are so brave for battling through your pregnancy and I really wish that you get the help you need from your medical team. Please keep fighting for help and don't let them ignore it.

Wishing it goes away for you and your pregnancy is as smooth as ever! Seek help and if you feel low please speak to someone. No mother to be should be feeling ignored by their healthcare professionals.

Hello, I have the fear of vomiting phobia 'Emetophobia' and it is quite frankly debilitating. I am also 8wks6days pregnant and suffering every day with nausea although I haven't yet been sick. I did get some Cyclizine from the doctor and explained my phobia, even having them in the house makes me feel so much better. As we know with our phobia the more we stress and worry about it the worse it gets, team that with a bit of pregnancy nausea and it becomes quite overwhelming.

Things that work for me that you could try when I feel nauseous or I know its coming on

  • Sipping cold ginger beer
  • Doing something like tidying or a puzzle, magazine, reorganise my wardrobe
  • Podcast on, Nip,Tuck and not giving a F*&k has me in stitches and those girls are so relatable (also mums)
  • Travel sickness bands on my wrists
  • Have a bath or do something self care related
  • Nibble on Nature Valley bars or something dry and oaty.
  • Get in the fresh air, an hour in the garden or a walk somewhere quiet really helps.

Do anything and everything that makes you feel better, my poor fiancé has been up in the attic getting down Christmas decks for me to organise and all sorts! It will end and you will feel better soon. Mind over matter....
