long haul flights in second trimester

am due to go on a long haul flight (last pre baby holiday) when I'll be about 27/28 weeks. Am goign to get double check with consultant before I go but there is no reason that I am aware of medically as have luckily been healthy before/during the pregnancy. However am now getting cold feet esp as my dad who is also a doctor (and also something of a proud/worried grandad) is worried due to fact flight will be 10/11 hours and he doesnt think it'll be that healthy for me or baby.

Any one had any experience of doing this -its not just the medical side of it but also the more practical aspects of travelling when lets face it you're not at your most comfortable.

am not allowed due to complications but as long as they agree all they'll tell you to do is wear the flight socks and drink a LOT of water on the flight

we did vegas when 10wks pg with dd2 and that was 10hrs, tiring but fine - I know its not the same but just take it easy - tracksuits and flipflops for foot rubs from obliging dh!

very jealous but enjoy your holiday

I flew to Seattle at 27 weeks then did four internal flights over the next week. I was fine but I did wear support stockings and drank water. Also changed into PJ's as soon as I got on.

Was lucky enough to be in first class though which probably helped.

thanks dizzy and abigail- and sorry to hear about not being able to go dizzy.

I did a trip to california at about 6 weeks and to europe at about 10 weeks so know its not impossible but just super sensitive.

water/flight socks good idea - and we're lucky enough to be going club so that should help.

I live abroad and flew home at 26-27 weeks for 8 days. The longest flight was 13 hours from Hong Kong then another 2 hours from there. Felt fine, wore flight socks which I think helped and drank loads of water. Feet did blew up the following week but went down - the trials of travelling cattle class! We pre-booked our seats which guarenteed me aisle seat for the copious loo stops. Now 32 weeks and fly internally most weekends and all seems good. I say go for it you deserve that holiday!
