When to tell work?

We’ve just found out we’re having baby number 2 in October!

Im about 5 weeks

I work in a physically demanding job in a mental health hospital so some of our patients are aggressive and can lash out and hit us quite often. Also we have to use restrictive holds at times and my role includes heavy moving and handling.

Should I tell work this early to protect myself and baby?

Congratulations on your baby!

Yes, I’d absolutely tell your work so they can implement a risk assessment for you and keep you safe. I’m an ex prison officer and told them when I was about 5 weeks. Same as your job, they obviously can’t remove the people you work with or potential for restraint, but can remove you. I was put onto non contact duties in an office.

Hello! Congrats!

I work in an office, so not a physically demanding job at all! But I was so unwell in weeks 5/6 that I told my manager because I wanted to increase my days working from home.

I'd tell immediately given the circumstances x

I would tell them under these circumstances!

I had to tell my manager and the big boss when I was 9 weeks as they had all the downstairs painted with really strong industrial solvent paint which shouldn’t be breathed in when pregnant so I needed them to know so I could be moved upstairs. They have both kept it a secret and came up with a reason to tell others why I’ve been moved
