Hey,

Not sure if I'm being dramatic but would you travel in a car alone 2.5 hours away for a family members funeral? I'll be 38w5d and expecting a C-section from 39 weeks. In the last couple of weeks there's been complications (expected pre eclampsia but tests always come back fine) I'm currently being treated for high blood pressure and will need to be monitored the day of the funeral.

I'm leaning more towards not going but is this wrong?

thanks!

Hmm tough one, that’s 5 hours total driving, that’s a lot at that stage especially when there’s complications, I’m not sure I’d risk it personally. You don’t really need the added stress given the circumstances. could you watch via video link or something?! if you did really want to attend in person I’d def take maternity notes and a hospital bag just in case you need to go to a near by hospital. Maybe ask your midwife for their advice too.

No, I probably wouldn’t. It’s along way, even ignoring the risk of going into labour, I would be exhausted.

Sorry for your loss x

Even if you did go into labour, it usually takes hours and builds up very gradually. If you took your notes and hospital bag you’ll be fine. You’re body doesn’t tend to go into labour until you’re feeling relaxed so I’d say the risks are minimal

Sorry for your loss. No personally I wouldn't go, even without your added health issues I wouldn't go. A lot of funerals are now done through a live stream if thats an option?

Sorry for your loss. I wouldn’t go either. I had a C-section scheduled at 38w2d but went into labour at 38w. Even more so with the added complications since that could escalate suddenly (hopefully everything will be fine until your section).

Thank you all so much for your replies, we think it's for the best I don't attend but I just wanted to check I wasn't being ridiculous or blaming everything on pregnancy ❤️

I work away a lot as of 30 weeks I will be office bound, I am currently 28 weeks 5 days and had a 4 hours journey (alone) yesterday home and tbh honest it was horrendous so uncomfortable for the last hour and that's the issue the first part fine, the last part was a tough slog and I just wanted to be home and i am good traveller due to work so for me I will be hanging up my keys and DP can do all the driving

unluckyinlife · 10/02/2023 08:05

I would go personally. I think I'd regret if I didn't but think it's understandable while some wouldn't. Worst case I'd stop halfway through the drive so I could move around the stretch my legs x

Yourteaisgettingcold · 10/02/2023 14:23

I wouldn't go - on top of worry re labour I'd also struggle to sit in a car for that long because of my back and hips.

I'm sorry for your loss.

mummyh2016 · 10/02/2023 14:57

I would depending on how close you were to the person. Both of my children were born before 38+5 as well so I get it's a risk. Just take your hospital bag and anything else you may need, and check closest hospitals beforehand.

Rosafiona · 11/02/2023 16:00

I would go if sitting in the car is not too sore. Bear in mind that most women in the northwest Highlands have to travel up to 3 hours whilst in active labour to get to the nearest hospital. It's not fun but it's doable.
