Nappy cream etc

I know that you aren't meant to use anything other than water to wash a newborn but I was wondering what nappy cream etc to buy?
And also if it is good to have some kind of baby soap? Some nice organic, crap free stuff.
I know a lot of nappy creams treat certain probs that my baby might not have but I wondered if there was anything I should have in the cupboard anyway. Like maybe some Green Baby vaseline?

Any advice would be most appreciated. Have never changed a nappy in my life so have no idea what to put on his little bot!

Before you put the very first nappy on put some vaseline on the bottom. Will help getting the very sticky first poo off. (Idea pinched off here. )

I used zinc and castor oil when my first 2 were small and have recently bought bottom butter from John Lewis but it is gathering dust as DS2 is pratically out of nappies.

Fullers earth cream, I love it, DD loves it. Great for nappy rash. A friend of mine recommended it to me and I have used it ever since.

Whatever you do .... Do Not use Johnsons.

thanks guys. Don't worry I won't use Johnsons - wouldn't bath the dog in that disgusting stuff! Going for green people or neals yard.
Or maybe some organic pharmacy too. They are based in London but have a lovely mail order if anyone wants to google them and see it.
Really nice natural stuff.

Dr Bronner is good too - here.

Avoid anything with sodium laureth sulphate - it's a lathering agent that is a known irritant - it's in most soaps and bubble baths.
