Day naps

Buba is just 16 weeks. As a newborn, she would day nap in a nest and next to me cot at night. As she got bigger, we got a smaller cot for downstairs but found it really hard to keep her asleep in it, she just didn't take to it. Not sure if it was because it slightly rocked or just being in something different. So, at my own detriment, she started to nap on me. Now, she's defo a routine napper and needs her naps (otherwise all hell breaks loose 😂) But she still, and has always consistently slept well at night in her cot. So i want to keep this for night times really

I really feel very over stimulated having her physically on me all day, so wanted to try and go back to putting her down for day naps and commit to trying something.. any suggestions as to what I could use? Anyone had good results using? Naps can range from 1-2 hrs so bounce chair not ideal. Thank you x

Personally if she sleeps well in the cot upstairs I would let her take her naps in there and just darken the room with blackout curtains than buying something extra which she may not like.

We used the pram for naps, mine has never napped in the cot/crib but slept fine in there at night.

You'll be doing yourself a favour in the long run if you can get her napping in her upstairs cot.

Is there any real need for her to be downstairs?

@breakfastbagel absolutely not no, would love it if she would go down in her nursery cot during the day 🙂 just never really occurred to me as shes still next to us at night

Thanks all, some good tips. Her nursery is set up with blinds and blackout curtains so will defo get the cam set up and give it a go 🤞🏻

Hi all!

I'm in the same situation at the moment and I'm also feeling very overwhelmed by the day naps on me.

How have the day naps been going in her cot?

LouLouB1987 · 12/03/2023 18:52

@JS1809 urgh, not great. The best we got was around 40 mins which sounds great but she normally does 2hrs for her first nap... to be honest, she's been poorly so kind of backed off a little but getting set to give it a real good go again!

She's 5 months this week so want to work towards getting in her own room! X

There will be mixed thoughts on this.
My baby has always needed her naps & i always used the cot day or night so much so that she has never taken to co sleeping other than newborn.
Downside is I'm quite tied to being at home to prioritise this but plus side is now aged 22 months she's giving me still one long daytime nap when i can get a bit of peace.
Yes I'm tied to the routine of it but car naps, pram naps anywhere else naps just aren't the same.
I'd say persevere for a week with the daytime cot naps to see if it works as it could be a lifesaver for those fractious toddler days when i genuinely counted down to the nap!

@SBR1 yes our girl needs her naps too, otherwise all hell breaks loose haha!

My sisters little one does one long midday nap in her cot too (toddler) and it seems like it's a massive help do absolutely keen to give it a good go. Thank you :)

Update on my situation... my girl is now having a 2 hour nap from 11:30- 13:30 everyday. I am officially nap trapped BUT it's worth it. I bought some black out temp blinds and put them on my windows, created a little pre nap routine and bang- worked a dream!!

Dotty23 · 06/08/2023 09:13

Hey,

Struggling with this at the minute. What’s your pre nap routine? Will baby sleep when you go out too

thanks

An update…

my girl is now 8 months old, she has a 20 min nap in the morning (2 hours after she wakes up) so about 9ish. I then wake her up after 20 mins.

I then give lunch and a bottle a little while after. I wait 3.5 hours after wake up and then put her in a sleeping bag, in a blacked out room. She tends to wake after 40 mins and then puts herself back to sleep after messing around for 15 mins. This nap starts at 1pm, then Hopefully lasts until 3pm (on a very good day) then is awake until bed time at 7!
