Sleeping on side help

Any tips for sleeping comfortably on my side?

Pregnancy pillow does not seem to be working out for me this pregnancy, have tried other combinations of pillows but my hips are painful if I lie on side and I just can’t seem to drift off.

Currently have covid too and feel like the only way of getting any rest or sleep is by lying on my back, but that’s a big no as I’m 28 weeks.

Torn between getting the rest my body desperately needs and making sure my baby is safe.

Any side sleeping advice much appreciated!

I have no advice, only to say that you are not alone. I’m 27 weeks and I don’t get much quality sleep on my side. My hip tends to hurt and sometimes my leg. I start alternating from left to right from 4am. I was very much a back sleeper before.

Hope you recover from covid quickly.

Back sleeper normally here too. Not sure if you have a spare bed to try in case it's the mattress? I find my hips hurt more if I side sleep in one room than the spare room.
If this isn't an option, not sure whether the padded mattress toppers that you can get would help?
Either that or I think back sleeping but propped more upright is meant to be safer but might be worth reading up on this if you want to consider it. Also appreciate that doesn't sound like a comfy solution either!
Solidarity with it being a rubbish situation!

I can sympathise! I sleep fine until the early hours and then I’m SO uncomfortable. A couple of things have helped though. I start with wedging a pillow under my back so I can flop a bit further towards my back, without actually lying flat on it (if that makes sense?). The pillow creates a wedge keeping me at an angle towards my left side. If that doesn’t help, I used three pillows to prop me up so I’m lay on my back but at an angle, like one of those pool-side beds on holiday. I normally can sleep like this for an hour or so, and then move back to my side. It just provides a bit of a break for my leg and hips

I hate it!

I found putting a very thick winter duvet under the fitted sheet and sleeping on that, helped with the hip pain.

Also i pushed my bed against the wall with a pregnancy pillow behind my back so the I could lean against the pillow / wall. Helped somewhat.

@marleyandme I was actually thinking of getting a mattress topper, I think it would be worth it if it helps make me comfier for this last trimester.

I did end up sleeping really propped up on pillows last night as in the end I just needed sleep and I figured that was probably safer than normal back sleeping.

Sorry others are suffering too. I know it won’t be forever but that doesn’t help in those early hours of the morning
