testing vaginal pH, anyone do/done it?

My health insurer (I live in Germany) is running a trial with special (disposable!) gloves with which you test your vaginal pH from 14-28 weeks. This is supposed to help prevent prem birth (+ late m/c?) as it shows up in the pH level if you have an infection. Unfortunately the trial is not being run in my area and I'm not sure how easy it is to get hold of gloves/test strips in chemists etc.
Is this testing recommended in the UK? Does anyone do this or has anyone done it? In short, should I be doing it? I'm 15 weeks on Tuesday and feel I should start really soon if it has any benefits - after one m/c already I want to do whatever I can so that this one goes well.
TIA for any advice/experiences!

don't know much about this, but it is certainly not done routinely in the UK.

Hello and thank you!
Did some reading up today and it seems the gynaecologists' association here supports this testing and several health insurers are running a trial with a view to making the test gloves available on their insurance - studies have suggested it does reduce the rate of prem births. As I said the trial does not include my area otherwise I would get the gloves for free. I decided to go out and buy some though - I know a friend who had a late m/c used them in her last, successful pregnancy. They cost a fair bit (25 Euro for 20 gloves) but you only have to test once or twice a week. I tested and my pH, it seems, is fine :) . Of course it doesn't tell whether you definitely have an infection but could provide a warning sign that something or other is up.
P.S. my figures were wrong, they ask you to test from 12-34wks
