BLEEDING 5 WEEKS

I found out on Thursday morning that I am pregnant with my second child. Today around lunchtime I noticed blood when wiping after a wee, fast forward 5 hours and it's got heavier. No clots present mild cramps!!

I have not had the chance to notify the DR I am pregnant due to me working and planned on doing it tomorrow. Basically looking for advice on successful pregnancy with bleeding at this stage and if I should go ahead and let the Dr know I am pregnant (mention I'm bleeding?)

Been scrolling for hours looking for some magical answer 😌

It could be an implantation bleed, ectropian or synchronic haemotoma which can all cause bleeding in pregnancy but are usually harmless, the best thing to do is ring your gp, they can either do a blood test or send for a scan to confirm pregnancy, it can also have been a chemical pregnancy which is a very early miscarriage, fingers crossed it’s all positive and the bleeding settles!

I’m so sorry you have this stress 😞

It could go either way as could be many things and at this stage a lot of GP’s won’t do anything apart from tell you to test again in a week and see if it’s still positive (unless you’ve had multiple miscarriages then they might do bloods to check HCG levels). I’ve had 2 chemicals at 5 weeks and it really sucks. Worth telling them you’re pregnant and bleeding anyway so they can put it on your records.

If you’re still testing positive at 6 weeks though the GP can refer you to EPU where they can scan you to check that there’s something there.

The hard truth is it’s 50/50 as to whether it’s going to be a successful pregnancy or not. I’m sorry. I’ve been there.

You have a few potential options:

If your area‘s early pregnancy unit accepts pregnancies v early you could contact them. But I doubt they’ll see you this early, it’s usually 6,7,8 weeks depending on area.

If your GP will see you this early they can do a blood test and then repeat the blood test after 48hrs to see if your HCG is rising as it should. But it’s not likely they’ll see you. If you want this option then private clinics will do it for a price.

You can repeat pregnancy tests over the next few days to see if the line gets fainter/disappears or stays strong. But this isn’t an exact science and you can end up spending a fortune on them and agonising over whether a line is strong or not.

Potentially the best thing to do would be to wait a few days-a week and see. Look out for the symptoms of an ectopic pregnancy, look after yourself, and try and keep busy so you don’t go mad wondering what’s happening.

Thank you for your replies, best speaking to GP and see how things go (I'm trying not to overthink)

What will be will be 🤷‍♀️

FWIW I bled with implantation at 5 weeks, again at 11 weeks, which was when my depo injection was due for renewal.

My 13 yo DD is currently procrastinating about getting into bed!!!

Good luck xx
