Travelling at 32 weeks?

Has anyone travelled at 32 weeks? We are looking for some last minute sun and the only dates we can do are when I will be 32 weeks. We are going to Dubai… has anyone travelled this late in pregnancy and was it enjoyable / ok?!

I know I will need a fit to fly letter which hopefully will be fine.

travel insurance doesn’t cover pregnancy related conditions and birth after 32 weeks so if anything goes wrong or baby comes early, you’d be presented with a huge bill.

its not worth the risk.

I totally get you wanting some sun, but you’ll need to rearrange things to go before.

Agree with PP!

Hi OP, I travelled at 35 weeks back in the summer and my travel insurance definitely did cover me. Most insurances will cover single pregnancies providing you are not travelling last 36 weeks and that you've had a 'normal' pregnancy thus far.

You'll also need a fit to fly paper. I'd check with the potential airline too as they all have different policies, we flew with jet 2 and they allowed travel up to 36 weeks.

Ok thank you! How far did you travel? I’m just worried Dubai will be a little too far for 32 weeks (I will be 32 weeks the day we leave…).

@FLA92 our flight was almost 5 hours so not too far. I really think it depends on you, I was pretty relaxed about my pregnancy and travelling and I found the flight and holiday itself no different to travelling while not pregnant, with the exception that the water slides were off limits for me 😂

Oooh that’s comforting! I wasn’t worried until I saw the fit to fly requirement and have been pretty relaxed so will probably go for it. Will phone the midwife tomorrow and ask about the letter. Thank you!

How far along are you currently, OP? I travelled last summer at 20 weeks and it was fine other than a few dodgy moments in the heat, but knowing how uncomfortable I was from about 33 weeks onwards, I personally wouldn’t travel long haul this late on.

Agree with PP’s re risks regarding early delivery. I had a straight forward pregnancy up until 32 weeks when I discovered I had Cholestasis and had to deliver early.

TheHopefulMum · 29/01/2023 22:19

@FLA92 I'd definitely go if your comfortable with it. Our DD had an ectopic heartbeat during my pregnancy which I was worried would impact my fit to fly but consultant assured me it wouldn't cause any premature labour etc and didn't affect travel.

Rtmhwales · 29/01/2023 22:27

Not a chance. DS came with zero warning at 32 weeks. I wouldn't want to be away from home dealing with a NICU for weeks or months on end.

EcoLife · 29/01/2023 22:30

agree with PP re travelling long haul at 32 weeks but another thing to think about is the location. Are you married OP? In Dubai I’m pretty sure it’s illegal to give birth if unmarried as the UAE is a strict Islamic country. So I wouldn’t risk it if I was travelling that far along and not married.

Snugglemonkey · 29/01/2023 23:14

I flew from Glasgow to London, so a really short flight at 34 weeks and it was really uncomfortable. I travelled alone with one DC and it was hard work doing all the physical bits. We had a good trip, but I would not do it again.

Mouserat91 · 08/07/2023 20:39

Hey OP did you end up going? How was it?

maternitydiscrim · 08/07/2023 20:43

Had my dc at 33w so I wouldn't Blush

Hollyppp · 08/07/2023 21:57

Zero chance I would choose to go somewhere hot and sunny at 32 weeks (currently 36 weeks and don’t even want to get off the sofa this week)

SouthwestSis · 08/07/2023 22:16

Who knows how much the bill would be for a delivery in a hospital in Dubai, then imagine if there were any complications!
Thank goodness for our NHS

Ididivfama · 19/10/2023 19:31

Anyone else done this?

FLA92 · 23/10/2023 20:19

I went, loved it, would do it again! Now have a beautiful baby girl 🩷. I do have travel insurance so that wasn’t a worry for me!

Hi there, I am trying to find travel insurance that will cover me at 34 weeks. Do you remember who your travel insurance was with?
