Induction of Labour

Currently have an induction planned for tomorrow! I am having a propess inserted and I am not currently dilated at all! In fact baby is not yet engaged really, but is head down! I am almost 40 weeks! I’m looking for anyone who’s been in a similar position and can share their experience? I’m told to expect it to take a few days, maybe longer!
Also I’m being induced for medical reasons!

@PointyMcguire thank you! That’s good to know and really honest! I’ve only had one examination so far and was relieved that it hurt much less than a smear! (I hate smears and find them reslly uncomfortable and take diazepam for them)!
ive had the 24 hour propess, and 2 gels now and haven’t dilated at all! Cervix is still very closed! I don’t mind if it ends in a C-section ( though I’d rather it not) I just want her here safely now after all the complications! 3 nights in hospital has been exhausting!
I too had a simular birth plan, but also definitely want epidural now!

@Peonies94 oh bless you, I also found being in hospital for multiple nights tough, especially as they’d often start monitoring from around 4am but try to rest as much as you can now. In hindsight, I wish I’d rested more/sent DH home to rest more during my induction as I felt by the time I’d had DD we were very much filling from an empty cup which mentally and emotionally made everything so much harder in the early days.

I'm so glad you’ve not found the checks too bad. I found the pessary dried me out so found all the subsequent checks really sore, which wasn’t helped when one midwife needed a second opinion. I‘m usually pretty stoic when it comes to pain/pain relief so felt ridiculous needing gas and air to get through them and worried what that meant for how I’d cope with labour but it was actually fine in the end.

If you can I’d recommend plenty of bouncing on a birthing ball, brisk walks around the hospital (even better if you can find some stairs to side step up!) and watching comedy shows/your favourite shows/movies to help boost oxytocin. If you can harvest colostrum that should also help get things moving. The midwives also recommended taking a bath but I didn’t get round to that in the end.

Keeping everything crossed you’ll have some progress and have your beautiful baby in your arms soon. Despite how much I hated how drawn out my induction was, I’d do it all again in a heartbeat for that moment when you have your baby in your arms for the first time.

@Peonies94
Do we have a baby yet

BelleSauvage9 · 30/01/2023 17:05

Hi op, just coming on as I wish someone had commented for me when I was going through this (ignore if you've already had the baby!)

Have you ever had any procedures on your cervix (e.g lletz)? I was induced with dd2 and after days of pessaries I never dilated, turned out I have scar tissue on my cervix following a lletz procedure a few years before. Midwives were clueless and only realised after I figured it out after Googling! Ended up with an emcs after 'failed induction'. Just wanted to comment in case this could be possible for you too, I felt relieved once I knew and could take next steps based on the new information.

Wishing you luck 😊 and congratulations

thought I’d update this!
no baby yet for those wondering!

thursday - admitted into hospital and told IOL needed
very busy ward so no induction until Saturday day, 24 hour pessery given. The next day I was given 6 hour gel, and another 6 hour gel that evening. Monday morning I was examined with the option for more gel, or to have waters broken, depending how it had gone. I was able to have waters broken, but had to wait for availability. So it’s been 36 hours since any procedures have been done and just trying to do what I can to speed the process along! Hopefully not long to go now!!

Good luck @Peonies94 you've already been on there a long timeeeee! Hope she comes soon x

Dyra · 31/01/2023 08:52

Thanks for coming back and updating us. I know how rotten the wait is. Hopefully it shouldn't be too long now until you're on delivery suite for the ARM. It's all go go go from that point on.

Dyra · 02/02/2023 21:36

Hoping you and baby are doing well. ❤

Username24680 · 03/02/2023 09:59

Peonies94 · 03/02/2023 17:34

Thank you! Ended up in an emergency C-section after a difficult Labour! The Labour was tough, but the C-section was a positive experience in the end! The baby is so worth it though! ❤️

@Peonies94 Sorry you had a tough experience. I’m glad the Section turned out to be positive in the end though. At the end of the day, a healthy baby and mum is all that matters 😊
I hope you’re soaking up all those newborn cuddles and recovering well yourself! 🥰
