Hi, I’m now 9 weeks pregnant and I’ve been experiencing non stop migraines since week 8… They lessen during the day but I’m in the dark in my bedroom everyday from 3pm until I fall asleep. It’s driving me crazy and paracetamol doesn’t do much (I don’t want to overdo it either).

Just wondering if anyone else experienced this in their first trimester and when did it stop? Not sure how much longer I can take it :/

You poor thing, that sounds awful. I had a few migraines around the same time as you - they were completely debilitating and one went on for three days! I never got them after the first trimester and I’m 28 weeks now and haven’t had one since. Really hoping they ease off for you x

Hi @Hannouck sorry you’re suffering with this. I had similar issues with migraines in the first trimester (im 20 weeks ish now) and they have definitely lessened to just headaches now most of the time. Make sure your midwives keep an eye on you though so it’s not pointing to something more serious!

sorry I can’t be more helpful - I remember writing a similar post saying ‘does this headache and sickness ever end I don’t think I can do it’ so I know the feeling. Really hope you get better soon, all you can do is rest xxx

Well that’s good to hear I’m not the only one ;) I can deal with the nausea but the migraines are the worst 😅
I’m hoping they start to lessen by 12 weeks… 3 more weeks to go!

Definitely worth talking to your midwife or gp about it. I'm a long-term migraine sufferer and, even though I'm lucky and don't get them in pregnancy, I was told which migraine medication to take in case I do get one. For me that's sumatriptan. There are ones out there that are safe to take in pregnancy. Don't feel like you have to suffer through this without any pain relief. I know paracetamol won't even touch the sides of a migraine. There is targeted medication that can knock a migraine on its head (excuse the pun).

I've had two migraines now, both times a couple of hours after being sick, both I've had the auras affecting my vision for and a banging headache for a good two days afterwards. I'm currently 15+3. Was pretty scary the first time tbh, have tried to speak to the midwife helpline I was given today and was told they don't deal with anything until after 20 weeks apparently so have managed to get a doctors appointment tomorrow to discuss it with them. Before being pregnant I've never had a migraine before but does run in my family.

Talk to your widwife/GP - I had a horrendous migraine whilst pregnant and they were able to prescribe me dihydrocodeine. It literally saved me as I was so ill with migraines.
