Posterior Low Lying Placenta 32 weeks

Hi there,

Sorry - bit of a long one!

Third pregnancy.

I have just been for my 32 week scan to check on my posterior low lying placenta. It was picked up on my 20 week scan and I have been checked a few times since and it hasn’t budged as of yet. Today it was measuring 0.9mm from the os, so extremely close to the exit route still so to speak!
I have been told at this point it is unlikely to move far enough out the way for a vaginal delivery as posterior low lying placentas don’t tend to move much from this stage, and that I will more than likely have a c-section (to be discussed further at my 36 week scan). A c-section doesn’t phase me, as I was wanting an elective c-section for other reasons anyway (this would be my first).
As of yet I have had no bleeding, which quite surprised the midwives and consultants!
I just wondered if there are other Moma’s out there who have been similar to me at this stage .. posterior position etc .. did it move up past 32 weeks? Any bleeding?
Did you have a c-section whether it moved or not?
Let me know your experiences :)

Thanks in advance! x

I also have a posterior lwo lying placenta at 32 weeks. Wondering what happened with yours?

Hi there, had my last scan to check position of placenta at 36 + 4 days. It had moved slightly but nowhere near enough and still well in the ‘danger zone’ so to speak so I met with the consultant and a c-section was booked in for 38 + 1 day. Filled in all my notes with her there and then. On the day everything went smoothly, no problems whatsoever x

Amazing thank you! Did you have any spotting or any bleeds throughout your pregnancy? I had a big bleed at 20 weeks and then on and off spotting since then. I’m worried if the spotting continues I may need a 36-37 week c-section or if it’s okay still with 38-39 week c section?

I’d also like to add that I had no bleeding the whole time my placenta was lying low, despite being warned constantly x

The consultant told me they prefer to keep the bun in the oven for as long as possible so the little ones’s lungs are developed, but did say should I bleed they would of course look to do it sooner. Just emphasise the worry you are having regarding the bleeding, they may well happily get you booked in a little sooner. I was told if I went into early labour they would of course have rushed me through for a c section xx

Thanks so much for your response, I’ll do that!

Mine was low at 20 weeks but thankfully mine moved up. It's actually moved up so far the leading edge is above babies head! I did suffer a lot of bleeding in the early stages though from it, they almost kept me in at 22 weeks. If it hadn't moved up they were planning on admitting at 32 weeks anyway, assuming with the prevalent bleeding they would need me there to crash C section if I had a really big one. If you're not bleeding that's really good!

Another good thing is yours is posterior! Anterior ones are usually in the way of where they normally cut for a C section and they either have to cut through it to get to baby or change where they cut.

I had placenta previa marginalis with a similar distance from the os. No movement and would have led to a section on its own. I also had vasa previa so had a section at 36 w anyway. Baby did very well.

Okay great to read. At 32 weeks the placenta is still .7 from os, starting to doubt it will move by 36 weeks. But fingers crossed! Great to see the babies do well, which is all that really matters.
