As above, has anyone ever delayed or postponed their induction date?

Yes, I opted for monitoring until I was 42+3 despite having an induction booked for 41+6. I'm glad I did delay. Everything is your choice and I believe you should aim to find out all the facts to make as informed choice as possible. My induction failed and I ended up with a c section anyway!

I wanted to but the consultant was very clear as to why they were recommending induction and the risks of not heeding their advice. As it happens their reasoning was unfounded and DD was absolutely fine, but the risk of her not being ok wasn’t something I was willing to gamble on.

Yes! You absolutely don't have to have an induction if you don't want to. I went 12 days overdue and felt really bullied into it, so I point blank refused. Went into labour spontaneously and had a quick, natural birth.

I would have considered induction if I'd gone 14 days over or more, though.

Hi
Yes, it’s been recommended I come in at 39 weeks purely due to being over 40 (no health issues). I said I’d delay it until 40 weeks as my last experience just 15 months ago was mixed due to being induced. The baby got distressed and being on oxytocin drip was something else in terms of pain!

Danikm151 · 23/01/2023 20:11

Yep. Induction was booked for 37 weeks but had a growth scan and with consultant we agreed that baby would cook a bit longer so was induced at 38+3 and baby cane at 38+5

wad induced due gestational diabetes

Yes, I can’t remember exactly how long for though… It was something like they routine booked me for 40+10, midwife got them to put it back to 40+12, I declined again on day 12, but went in for an extra scan. I agreed to it on day 13 and went in but labour started naturally while I was waiting in hospital for a bed. Worked out great for us, really pleased I stood up for myself, BUT risk increases (still small, but bigger) so no one can make that decision for you.

At about 34 weeks I was offered an induction at 37 weeks and said no as it was based on baby's supposed lack of growth. He soon caught up so it wasn't needed. I did end up getting induced at 37+3 though due to pre eclampsia so it wasn't much of a postponement in the end!

Yes and induction was totally pointless for me. I should have just insisted on c section as went through so much just for an emergency c section.

SouthwestSis · 23/01/2023 22:42

No, in fact the opposite.
I booked it for a couple of days before I actually. wanted it as I knew it may well get delayed due to lack of beds and/or staff on the labour ward,
And that's exactly what happened!

(Was booking induction for GDM)

Yes and I’d cancel again if needed - mine was for suspected “big baby” which wasn’t as big as they said and was born fine anyway!

You should avoid an induction if you can, the less intervention the better
