Registry Office Wedding, while Pregnant

Has anyone got married in a registry office, whilst pregnant? How did you find it? What did you do after the ceremony? Did you do anything in particular to make the day even more special?

We were engaged for over a year before we conceived but with covid, ttc/fertility testing and renovating a house (moving 3 times in 2 years!), we’ve not managed the actual wedding yet!

We’d like to be married before the baby is born so are thinking of a registry office wedding and then having people back to our house for a buffet and drinks etc.

It would hopefully be 25th March, when I’ll be nearly 35 weeks pregnant!

Any thoughts on the time frame (beforehand for planning and with how pregnant I’ll be!) or any general advice please!?

No advice, but wanted to say congratulations. It is the right decision to protect yourself and your child. Have a fabulous day.

I did this!

was 6 months pregnant and we had a registry office wedding, then a meal at the village hotel.

very very low key. The wedding was booked before I fell pregnant, I then had terrible SPD. My feet were swollen and I had to take my shoes off straight after the photos!

I got my wedding dress from Tiffany Rose. They do maternity wedding and occasion dresses.

it was a very simple, no frills wedding

It's fine. I'm a registrar and marry lots of couples in various stages of pregnancy. Ceremonies usually last around 20 mins at the longest, and they can arrange for a chair if you prefer to sit down. No big deal!

We did this. We were buying a house as well and so financially we couldn't do a big wedding once you factored in moving costs, plus baby costs/mat leave etc (and tbh neither of us were that fussed about it).

We just had a few guests - parents and some close friends, and then went to a local restaurant for lunch.

It was great. I love going to big weddings but I'm not sure I'd have enjoyed having one myself!

Oh and I was 30 weeks pregnant. I had quite bad hip/pelvic pain so even the short walk from taxi to registry office, and then registry office to restaurant had me in pain. I was glad to be home by about 4pm eating homemade cake in bed!

I got married in a very low key ceremony at 5 months pregnant. I didn't wear a wedding dress as such, but a flowing flower print dress that accomodated my bump.

There was only my immediate family and his sister and best friend at the ceremony, then we went for afternoon tea afterwards. It was a lovely day, stress free, but beautiful.

Tbh I never wanted a big wedding, so having a bump during covid gave us the perfect opportunity to just invite the bare minimum.

Congratulations on the wedding. I hope that your day is magical!

I did this!

We hired a room and had afternoon tea afterwards. It was lovely and chilled.

Our wedding was supposed to be April 2020 but then Covid and lockdown happened. Fell pregnant late 2020 and decided we wanted to be married before the baby came, so ended up getting married at the registry office when I was 36 weeks with just our two witnesses. DH wore jeans and a shirt, I wore a floral maternity dress, and we had a pub lunch together afterwards and home by 4pm, it was great!

Congratulations op! I don't have any advice I'm afraid but watching with interest as we are looking to do a similar thing. Hope your day goes wonderfully! 😊🎉 X

We are planning to do this in April (all being well, I will be 32 weeks pregnant). The only thing I’m worried about is that we booked an evening-ish ceremony at the RO and are planning a dinner with close family afterwards, but am slightly worried I will be too tired for a potentially lengthy evening out!

Leaf86 · 23/01/2023 20:28

And congratulations btw !!!

SillyYak · 23/01/2023 20:38

I did this! 5 months pregnant, DH and just two other guests. It’s so lovely reading about all the other kindred weddings tonight. Bought my dress from Seraphine, took photos somewhere picturesque outside afterwards then went for a (0%alcohol) pint. Was ten years ago last year.

Have a lovely day OP ❤️❤️

We got married in a registry office when I was 6.5 months pregnant, and we had a full sit done meal and disco at a hotel afterwards. On the 24th March! (Not saying what year though 😀)
We didn't have to do anything to make it any more magical than marrying the person you love already is - although during DHs speech, DD kicked like mad inside me, I assume at the sound of his voice! She was otherwise moving normally. Now THAT was magical!
Congratulations for both your wedding and your new arrival, my lovely x

Nadinya · 24/01/2023 08:07

I got married exactly a week ago at the registry office while then 17 weeks pregnant.
For me/us it was perfect, the ceremonie itself was simple but it was honestly so lovely and in the evening we had dinner with the whole family.

Not the big wedding I used to dream off but honestly such a perfect for a fraction of the cost!

i83 · 25/01/2023 16:22

It’s great to hear about people’s days!

I hope I’ve not been really silly, as I will be nearly 8 months pregnant by that point but we’ve booked the registry office for 1.30 and then we’re having everyone back to our house for afternoon tea (platters from M&S) and drinks and then pizza and more drinks in the evening!!
There will be about 45-50 people!!!!

I guess the only good thing is that I can go and have a lie down, if I’m shattered, as we’re at home!

Just hope I manage ok and get to enjoy the day!!

We’re going to register the marriage tomorrow!!

Think of all the money you'll save to spend on baby and new house! So many people start their married lives having wiped out their savings on The Big Day

Sapphire387 · 25/01/2023 16:28

Love this. Hope you and your (almost) DH have a wonderful day, and best wishes to you for the birth and beyond.

I didn't get married during pregnancy, but did have a low-key registry office plus lunch (close family/friends only) and we wouldn't have changed a thing.

TwoHouseholdsBothAlikeInDignity · 25/01/2023 16:30

Yes! We did!

Not a registry office but in a lovely hotel, they had a beautiful function room decorated out in a xmas theme - it was just before Xmas obviously!

We then had an annexed room where we had a meal, with background music from a playlist from our ipod.

Small gathering, approx 15 in all.
