Hi!

I have one daughter who was born at 29+4. Totally normal uneventful pregnancy before my waters went and she flew out 14 hours later!

Around 2 years later I had three chemicals in a row - literally think it was Oct/Nov and Jan. I think I was only 6/7 weeks each time, first time I went to the EPU and they saw nothing but next two times I didn't bother just waited for negative tests at home. Have had a break for a year and just had a faint positive test (ok 3 tests lol) on day 29 of my cycle.

I am already under the recurrent miscarriage clinic and having bloods done - everything so far has come back normal but they weren't able to do the lupus test. I was also previously seen by a preterm clinic & the consultant said next time I was pregnant he'd put me on aspirin and give me progesterone pessaries.

My question is how soon would I need the progesterone? I already have 75mg aspirin tablets at home so have started taking one a day (sounds stupid but if I take 2 tablets a day is that better as the recommended dosage now is 150mg daily?) - I'm only 4 weeks so not sure if that's far too early to contact the Dr from the recurrent miscarriage team to ask for progesterone? Surely they won't prescribe that until 7+ weeks when they can actually (hopefully!!) see the pregnancy on an ultrasound?

Any advice please, really appreciated. As you can imagine it's all I can think about, I'm staying hopeful but I just wish I could fast forward the next 4 weeks so I can hopefully see a heartbeat on the screen. I'm scared every time I go to wipe that it will be pink 🥹

Aspirin dosage is usually 150mg now, and it’s most effective taken at night.

I started progesterone with a positive pregnancy test, along with enoxaparin (for APS, and already took aspirin due to this). I’m also under a recurrent miscarriage clinic.

Thanks for your reply! So if I have 75mg tablets I should be taking 2 tablets at night?

I'm going to try calling my GP on Monday morning to ask about progesterone. I'm only 4 weeks /I think 15dpo and only very faint lines so I guess they'll tell me it's too soon? Just feel sick (and not literally feeling sick with symptoms sadly ha) just feel really anxious like it's all going to happen all over again

I'm so sorry for your losses 💐 I've no personal experience except from my best friend, who was given progesterone from her positive test. She was involved with Tommy's, her GP and somewhere else, so I'm unsure where she sourced it. But she's currently pregnant now :) I'm 35w and she's 10 days behind. Good luck OP. I hope you have a happy and healthy pregnancy 💓

Hi, I was under the recurrent miscarriage clinic after 4 consecutive losses, the consultant told me to start testing early each cycle & as soon as I got a faint positive to start on the cyclogest pessaries, morning & night & the 150mg of aspirin every night, I did this & am now 37+4 wks with my little girl & my pregnancy has been has been great 😊

Re: progesterone - some will have the go-ahead for take from positive test.

However, some doctors follow guidance that it should only be given if a viable pregnancy is seen- so usually confirmed by a scan at 5 weeks. This is because progesterone can mask bleeding and lead to the discovery of a missed miscarriage further down the line.

Just letting you know as some docs will not just give it on positive pregnancy test. Best of luck.

I'm in similar situation however- you started taking progesterone as soon as you got a ppssitive test? Wete you advised not to incase its in wrong location? Or until you had a early acanthus at 6-8 weeks but obviously then it might be too late? My nurse said they can't advise me to take progesterone incase it grows in the wrong location and your doing damage? I'm tempted to take it as soon as I get a possitive test because I've had 3 misscarriages this year all getting to 6-7 weeks only. I find out at 3 weeks and do nothing. My previous pregnancy and live birth I took those progesterone and aspirin from finding out. Now been advised not to just incase, and I seem to have misscarriages? I potentially may have lupus anticoagulant so need aspirin for the next pregnancy (waiting for defo confirmation on this) as I had misscarriage screening and they said its possible I have it. I'm wondering if you just took your progesterone and aspirin (possibly before you got pregnant the aspirin?) And then fell pregnant and continued it? Whether I should just do this? I remember aspirin in my last pregnancy...

@Suprima this is what I was advised. This is why I didn't take pessaries or aspirin. However because I didn't take either I had 3 misscarriages due to "waiting for 6-8 week mark for my first early scan. My live daughter however when I found out, I took both straight away from 3 weeks pregnant without an early scan until 9 weeks. I am now thinking for my 3 misscarriages I had this year, I wished I had done the same as like with Mt daughter. She was born last September. I've had 3 misscarriages since. In total over 3 years, I've had 8. 1 live birth. I'm now very cautious when I get pregnant to take the advice to wait, I know they advise not to, incase of unknown location. I've had a ectopic in March this year, chemo to shrink, it worked then sudden erupt. Emergency lap to remove right tube. But I didn't take any medication for that pregnancy. I waited till 7 weeks for scan to find out location right tube. I'm currently having fertility testing bloods scans flush left tube now, for hope for a 2nd baby. I am told I may have Lupus anticoagulant (to be confirmed in December) awaiting to find out if I will need medication aspirin or whatever. I feel like, I just want to take the pessaries and aspirin when I find out. To give another hope like my pregnancy with daughter last year. I do swear by these 2 things its the only reason I was able to carry to term.

I still haven't had a successful pregnancy (previously had my daughter with no pregnancy complications she just came at 29+4 because my waters broke) - I had aspirin daily with her due to risk of preeclampsia as my mum had it badly. In September I was pregnant for the 6th since since my daughter, started taking aspirin and progesterone as soon as possible - it delayed the bleeding but I took another test and saw them getting fainter until it was negative so I stopped taking both. I can't seem to make it to 6 weeks - I don't test until my period is late but then usually the tests fade until negative within a week or so. I've seen some people now take aspirin from ovulation and then progesterone from a positive test, that's what I'll try next time but I'm exhausted to be honest - it's been 2 years now and I think I need a break for my mental health. Such a rollercoaster of emotions as I'm so happy and hopeful each time I get a positive but it only lasts a day or two before I'm obsessively testing to see if it fades. Good luck! If you do have lupus at least you have a diagnosis and something they can give you solid advice on - all my tests came back clear so no idea what's going on. If you Google chemical pregnancies they think they are due to chromosomal abnormalities - yet they've not once met my partner let alone tested him when he's providing 50% of these chromosomes.

Do you think you have had chemical pregnancies? How do you know? Me too, my partners never been tested either. He has a semen test coming up as part of the fertility testing. I remember ttc 2 years ago for my daughter and that was a roller coaster and felt it was a chore daily and incase exhausted too. I'm worried if I don't do it all again I won't be able to have another. I'm trying to stay possitive but it's hard

Harrym2022 · 10/11/2023 22:56

Yes I've had 6 now- I don't test early, I wait until my period is late and get a positive and then before I hit 6 weeks pregnant I start to bleed. I think the first time I should have been over 6 weeks but when I went to hospital they couldn't see anything even though I was still testing faintly positive. Now seems I get a positive and within a week I start bleeding 😔
