Consultant week 28 twin antenatal appointment didn’t happen

I was meant to have a consultant appointment this morning at 9am by telephone. I hung around until 10am, as did my husband but then we had to go to work. Late morning l rang up, spoke to receptionist who was irritable with me and told me the appointment was face to face that’s why no one rang me. I read out the appointment letter they sent me which in 2 separate places said it was a telephone appointment and NOT to go to the hospital. Receptionist looked it up on the system, then conceded l was sent the wrong letter so it wasn’t my fault. Said someone would ring me at the end of clinic either the doctor or her. No one rang me. I rang back twice during the afternoon and got voicemail both times. Left voicemails but nothing

To be honest lm hacked off with the hospital overall as lots of things have been delayed or not happened. Communication has been poor -we said it was twins at booking in but no one bothered to tell the week 12 scan people this. Getting the prescription / dental exemption was like get blood out of a stone. Didn’t see the consultant until 22 weeks -it’s meant to be before 16 weeks. Community midwife has dropped off the face of the earth -haven’t seen her since week 16 and no appointment booked. Always nearly running out of blood thinners as the prescriptions are never ready and pharmacy often takes more than a day to dispense etc

Consultant was odd at the week 22 appointment acting as if l would go into Labour naturally. It’s twins, lm 43, they are IVF and l have never been pregnant / given birth before. So clearly not a week 40 natural birth! Plus l know my NICE guidelines and l wish to have a c-section -due to the risks to twin 2, odds of having to give birth plus a c-section and weirdly enough don’t have confidence they will monitor an induction sufficiently!!!

@Cuppasoupmonster a combination of not willing to follow NICE guidance, wanting to save a few quid and arrogance l think

@FullofFaith is it still ok if l send you a draft letter? They couldn’t be bothered getting back to me today and as ever time is drifting by.

Go to the head/consultant midwife rather than PALs. Much better for maternity stuff.
Also birthrights or AIMs are good for advice to help you phrase the email with the right words to have your wishes agreed for a CS.

@Kentlassie no consultant is not doing my scan, l have never met her. Spoke to her once on the phone for 4 minutes.

I’d be staging a sit in at the hospital

appalling behaviour, I’m so sorry you’re going through this xxx

I can look it up and see if it is on the database if you share the hospital but know that might not be great.

They are a joke. At least PALS have acknowledged my communication but for obvious reasons lm not feeling especially hopeful about getting this resolved

I found out the other day that one of my colleagues is about to start a formal complaint, due to the maternity care his partner has recently received. One of his neighbours is a senior manager in the NHS who has nothing positive to say about this hospital. The neighbour has voiced thoughts of burning the hospital down with the staff inside it. I can see why to be fair!

I would really urge you to find an alternative hospital, even if that means travelling. What if your twins came early? Would you be happy for them to stay in that hospital?

AHobbyaweek · 25/01/2023 12:55

Yes sure!

FullofFaith · 30/01/2023 00:04

@EL8888 I'm so sorry, I've just caught up. Of course it is, please do but by now I really hope someone had got back to you by now! I can see you say someone else is starting a formal complaint. It shouldn't be, but it's the only way at this stage. You need them to take you seriously xx

Newyearnewme1 · 31/01/2023 10:36

@EL8888 how have you got on? Have you managed to secure an appointment?

BiggerBoyMadeMeDoit · 02/02/2023 16:44

Have you managed to make any progress yet @EL8888

EL8888 · 05/02/2023 15:25

@BiggerBoyMadeMeDoit sorry for the slow response. There has been some change;

UPDATE:
-Saw consultant on Friday face to face so 2 weeks late. Next seeing in 4 weeks apparently and we can discuss c-section booking then
-I’ve checked the Twins Trust checklist and the hospital still need to play catch up on quite a few things
-Nearly missed consultant appointment as antenatal faffed around for so long. Scan finished, it then took the best part of half an hour to get my next appointment and be told they had stuffed up my medication. Despite the fact they knew l had another appointment booked
-Antenatal told me to email them to “remind” then to sort my blood thinners. I sent them an email 10 days before our appointment to remind them. They either didn’t bother to read the email and / or didn’t order them. So lm now going to have to miss 3 or 4 days of blood thinning injections 🙄 Midwife got huffy when l challenged her about this. Husband told me l was “embarrassing” for doing that. l said THEY were embarrassing and unprofessional. I didn’t see why they needed reminding and why they ignored the reminder
-Community midwife surfaced and wanted to see me at a time over lapping my other 2 appointments that day. Meeting her at a different site a few miles away so l obviously said l couldn’t
-So a bit one step forward, one step back really. Chaos reigns!
-Still got buyers remorse but most likely sorting a transfer would take forever

I hope the system is catching up now and things are back on track. Keep making noise if you are not happy and ignore your huffy DH.
