Maternity pay

I'm curious what typical maternity pay policies are. The company I work for pays statutory maternity pay only - 6 weeks at 90%, then down to £155 per week for 33 weeks. A colleague raised this with HR as being miserly. I agree it's not great but I don't know how that compares with other places. So I'm curious what everybody else's experience is.
[before anyone asks, I'm not pregnant and neither is the colleague.]

My company offers 6 months full pay, 3 months statutory and 3 months unpaid.

Statutory in both companies I've worked for for both pregnancies. It's shit.

AutumnScream · 18/01/2023 20:40

Statutory for me too. I cant afford the remaining three months off so will have to job hunt a few months after my baby is born. It sucks.

6 months full pay, 3 months statutory and 3 months unpaid here. I work in banking, financial services do tend to offer good benefits tbh

6 months full pay, 3 months statutory and 3 months unpaid after a years service (public sector) Previous employer was SMP only (private American based company)

On an enhanced package, 6 months full pay then statutory for the rest. Very large retail organisation. You can choose 6 weeks full & then rest SMP if your unsure to return.

My work is 6 months full, then statutory for 13 weeks and then unpaid, but you accrue holiday you can't take so will also get paid that. Its shocking how different it all is across different places, for context mine is a charity in the heritage sector.

Mines just been improved before I go on maternity! Although still not good!

12 week's at full pay then SMP, before it was 8 week's at full pay so I'm pleased it's improved just before I go on mat leave!

slimshady2023 · 25/01/2023 10:46

I work for a large company and get 12 weeks full pay then stat
Has anyone had any luck with escalating and getting an improved package? I have heard of people doing this but I am a bit nervous to do so

Also look at the paternity policies, they make a big difference to getting the partners to share the load
