6 hour drive at 32 weeks pregnant

We have arranged to visit family in a month or so. Only problem is we are meant to be visiting them and it's a 5hours 40 minute drive excluding stops.

I want to go if I can but I don't want to cancel last minute because it's too far.

I'll be 32 weeks pregnant by then. We are planning to go on the Friday and come back on the Sunday - so for just a weekend.

So for those that are in their third trimester/ had babies before. Would this have been manageable for you?

I did this type of drive regularly when pregnant with both my kids , and when they were new born, with my husband and alone. It all depends on the person and how comfortable they are in the car. I stopped a few times for a toilet stop, little walk around and a hot/cold drink.

If you plan your route around you it should be fine.

I would have had to stop every couple of hours to have a wee, but would have been fine otherwise.

Go if you can, you won’t be able to go for a while after the baby arrives.

Yep regularly did this and it was fine.

Hi @wintersun21 take lots of food and water. If you can sleep during the drive, time will flyby xx

massistar · 12/01/2023 16:01

I drove from Swansea to Glasgow and back at 36 weeks. Lots of wee stops but was fine!

Blendandmix · 12/01/2023 16:19

Yes as long as there's planned stops for toilet breaks/stretch your legs

Blendandmix · 12/01/2023 16:20

Take your notes just in case x

As long as you aren’t at risk of blood clots then I’d say it should be fine with reasonable breaks.

Might be worth speaking to your midwife as they can give you injections to prevent blood clots. Mine also mentioned an extended driving risk assessment (not exact wording but along those lines).

I would have said 36 weeks or later possibly not but 32 weeks should be fine :)
