Question - for those of you who conceived using OPKs - how long did it take you?

I originally posted a similar question in the conception section but on reflection think it may be better placed here!

I am 38, have a 10mo gorgeous DD who we conceived relatively easily. However, now I am that little bit older am keen to TTC#2 in a more focused manner!

I plan to use OPKs but have only just started and am curious on their success rate with other MNers so that I can be a little realistic about it all!

Had a last Thurs and DH and I BD'd Thurs, Fri and Sat (!) so am ridiculously hopeful as this is our first serious attempt. I suppose I am trying to prepare myself for a BFN (or otherwise if you lovely MNers have enough success stories out there!)

Thanks

no advice, just awtching for responses as I'm also ttc#2 and using OPK for first time.

Good luck!

First time for me... I got two on two consecutive mornings so made sure we BD'd both nights of the . At least you know you have given yourself the best possible chance. Good luck!

i spent £25 on opks towards the end of my cycle in prep for the next one and got a bfp a few days latter so i never got the chance to use them. i was told however not to bother using them as it puts to much pressure on you nad its a case of think about it too much and its less likely to happen. i would go for the every other day and extra when you get a positive good luck

Personally, they just make me stressed. You are better off going with the natural fertility indicators and not spending the money! (take it from someone who has got pregnant pretty quickly three times - at six months first time and second time the following two times) Do you know about looking for egg white cervical mucus?

Doingitallagain · 05/02/2008 11:52

I used cheap internet OPKs when trying to conceive #3, dd2 was just 6 months old. Like you, we just BD'd 3 times around the right time, but it worked first time for us. Good luck.

No BFP for 2 months so tried the OPK and got pregnant the third month - and we are an 'older 'couple!!

softmusk · 05/02/2008 18:26

tired to conceive for 5 monthes then brought some cheap opks from ebay 4.95 for 10 with 5 pregnancy tests and conceived that month

WinkyGirl · 06/02/2008 11:34

Conceived within 2 months (first month we hadnt used them early enough.) I found them brilliant. But then I like to be in control of things!
Good luck

We tried for 9 months with nothing then used opks for a bit then bought a clearblue moniter. it took 19 months altogether even with bding on the right days. dd1 took 3 months. i dont know why it took so long, i dunno if the opks made it easier or harder it did my head in though !.

thequietone · 06/02/2008 13:03

Took two months of using OPK kit. First month I used loads of them to cover middle of cycle - that month confirmed I ovulate quite late (day 22), meaning luteal phase (after ov was only 7 days, not the usual 14. this was a huge shock as I'd been trying to figure of for months and months why nothing was happening. The next month I was much more precise with OPKs, checked CM to confirm, and BINGO!
Still got some kits left over for number 3!

thanks to all of you that have replied! Very interesting and I remain hopeful for this month but realistic too if that is possible!

As someone said, at least we know that we have given it our best 'shot' (well DH has anyway! )

Thanks
