Haven't been given a time for c section on Monday!

I'm booked in for an elective c section on Monday at Birmingham women's hospital but haven't been told a time to go in (they said it would be 7am or 11am) and I'm starting to worry! They said they'd call a few days before but I haven't heard anything yet and have no idea what ward etc I'd call if I don't hear anything soon 😫

I only got told the day before what time to go in, I would give it until Friday and then give them a call if you haven’t heard. Good luck!

Ring the labour ward it should be in your green notes they can always tell you if you need to ring someone else or put you through to another department. Congratulations and good luck!

I wouldn't worry too much, if there's an emergency you'll be bumped further down the list. Just concentrate on making sure you're ready without fixating on it definitely happening at a certain time.

Hi @PitifulPrincess i went in for my c section and they didn't have enough beds, i had to wait for another appt.
They should call you but if they don't call by Friday give them a call.
All the best xx

From memory, I only knew a few days beforehand (was told on Monday, had baby Wed). I was given 7am timing. Woman having twins was ahead of me in queue, and various emergencies, I was eventually brought to theatre at 3.30. Prepare yourself for a long wait whatever happens!

Newlifestartingatlast · 11/01/2023 13:13

I wasn’t told the time until the morning of c- section once admitted. I was first on list so lovely surprise.
The reason they can’t tell you much in advance is that emergency c-section will always take precedent and those happen at short notice. If there’s been a backlog of planned CS from previous days list they might not know that till late afternoon, and have to postpone those CS to next day

normally they just want you in first thing so they have you all ready to slot in asap.

even once you get a time, you will need to expect it could be delayed by hours. For instance, despite the fact we’d warned them I’d need a senior anaesthetist due to a back issue I have, getting my spinal block in took 45 mins and meant they lost that extra 30 odd minutes time in theatre for the day - they had to wait for senior anaesthetist to come in and they were otherwise occupied in another theatre.

so, Don’t expect to deliver until you are being walked down to theatre is the best approach. Take stuff to keep you entertained while you wait- if you’ve got any older kids use it as a chance to have a nice rest day before a hell breaks loose when you get home 🤣🤣🤷🏼‍♀️

Thanks for all your replies! I think I'm mostly worried I've been forgotten about and won't hear anything at all, totally understand I may be waiting around a while when I am called in.

If I haven't heard anything by Friday morning I'll give them a call, would it be the triage number that I call? All other numbers in my blue book seem irrelevant!

I don’t understand. They said they’d ring a few days before? It isn’t even a few days before yet

TrudyProud · 11/01/2023 13:39

Try not to worry @PitifulPrincess . Even when you get your time take it with a pinch of salt! I was supposed to have mine at 7pm (I'd even been given my compression socks and DH was in his scrubs) but due to a series of EMCS I had my EC at 5am the following day so spent the night on the labour ward.

They won't forget you.

Hi everyone the hospital just called, I'm booked in for 7.30am on Monday - wish me luck!

Is your pre op tomorrow? They’ll probably tell you then.

It’s an arrival time. not the time of the op. Either morning or afternoon list, open to change.

Yes I'm aware of this, I just hadn't been told when to arrive yet 🙂

I was responding to the poster who said to take the time given with a pinch of salt..

That's great you've been notified! Eat plenty the day before. I was nil by mouth before surgery and they wound not let me eat again until 11pm that night. Also worth bringing some nice food in with you for after in a cool bag. The catering was closed for the day at my hospital by the time I got the green light to eat, so zero chance of a decent meal...I was very glad of my naice M&S sandwich and nibbles that I brought in with me!

Good luck on the day, hope all goes well and you're not kept waiting too long 👶🏻

PitifulPrincess · 12/01/2023 17:06

@Gooseysgirl they said to not eat after 2.30am and to have a big, late dinner so I'll make sure to eat til I'm stuffed 😂

Thanks for the advice, I'll make sure to pack something tasty for after!
