No community midwife at 16 weeks...is this normal?

I'm 16 weeks now and was referred by my GP for community care a few months ago. I've been seen at hospital but I still haven't heard from any community midwives.

Isn't there supposed to be an appointment at 16 weeks? Is it normal for no one to be in touch by this point?

I've followed up but just get told someone will be in touch...weeks go by and nothing!

Did you see your midwives at 8 weeks? That is booking in appointment and they give you your notes, then 12 week scan at hospital, 16 week with midwife and 20 weeks at hospital. Then rest with midwives

Yes in my area that would be strange. I'm sure at 16w you get bloods done, heartbeat etc. Definitely follow up again.

I'm 17 weeks and have seen community midwives twice - once at 8 weeks and had blood tests, arranged for genetic screening tests etc, then had 12 week scan with sonographer in hospital, and I've just had 16 week midwife appt as well where they check urine, blood pressure and listen to baby's heartbeat. It's very odd you haven't had any appointments with them - what area are you in? I googled community midwives in my area and self referred via an online form so perhaps that is an option for you. If not, look up their contact details and get on the phone to them today to get this sorted out. Good luck!

Is it your first baby? I’m pregnant with my second, I had a booking in appointment with midwives at 8 weeks then not another one until 20 weeks!

Thanks all, I'll follow up again. I had an appointment at 8 weeks but it was in a different area to where I live. I've then had booking in, scans and bloods at the hospital where I plan to deliver. But no contact from the community midwives in my area. I'm sure it's just an error but I feel really concerned about missing important milestones.

Only last week we found out that our hospital had forgotten to run tests for Down's, Edwards etc. Rectified quite quickly once I chased but if I hadn't, it wouldn't have been done.

I'm near a central city with a large teaching hospital, so I'm surprised!

These are all of the the appointments you should have (a couple are first baby only but says so)

I'm wondering if your GP never finalised the referral? Midwife should squeeze you in, I think, once they know about you!

I was told at 8 weeks that a community midwife would call be to book me in before 16 weeks and that if they didn’t I had to chase them up. They called me at 14 weeks so I never had to chase. It sounds like you’ve tried to chase them up but I would keep on at them daily until someone sorts something.
