PPROM at 33 weeks in previous pregnancy

Hi all,

When I was pregnant with my daughter a few years ago my waters went at 33 weeks (PPROM) and I was lucky as she held on for another 6 days before arriving at around midnight just as I reached 34 weeks.

I’m now pregnant again (after 2 miscarriages in between) and was wondering if anyone who experienced anything similar in an earlier pregnancy had any additional monitoring in a subsequent pregnancy.

thanks 😊

Hi OP!

Currently pregnant too, with previous pregnancy PPROM at 34+5. With a miscarriage in between so similar!

I'm 22 weeks now, had a consultation with the consultant around 16 weeks who basically said I had no additional risk factors - having had an early baby it's slightly more likely but no other reason to say it will happen again so I've been signed off their care as low risk.

I do have a growth scan booked in at 35 weeks though, which I wasn't offered first time - so hopefully all goes well this time.

Good luck x

Thanks @Teacaketotty - glad to hear all is going well for you so far!

I feel like once the anxiety about miscarriage reduces then I have the fear of PPROM.

Thats good you are getting an extra scan. I think my trust does a 36 one (didn’t get that far last time!) routinely. Hopefully at least if I see a consultant I can ask some questions.

I expect it varies between patients. If there was a known cause for the pprom last time, and they can manage it, or it was just a fluke and very unlikely to happen again, it's going to be less likely you'll need extra monitoring I would have thought. On the other hand if the cause was unknown, or it's something likely to happen again, then yes, extra monitoring.

I was on red pathway for subsequent pregnancies. I got cervical length monitoring, consultant overseeing, and regular growth scans from 24 weeks. My pprom was earlier than yours, hence the cervical length monitoring. I guess if you got to 34 weeks this is unlikely to be the cause.
Most importantly I felt I was also listened to more when I raised concerns. Not that they did anything substandard with the 'low risk' pprom pregnancy, but I just felt like in the later pregnancies any time I called or had a minor problem they were champing at the bit to check everything super thoroughly.
