Photo is from one of the last bites, so I ate the whole portion of potentially undercooked chicken being 31 weeks pregnant 😨 Scared of toxoplasmosis now. Does the photo look like it is undercooked? The color is not pink but also not white. Thank you!

Toxoplasmosis? I thought salmonella would have been more of a concern. That does look undercooked though. I hope you are ok 🌷

Onnabugeisha · 08/01/2023 15:45

Sorry, does look undercooked to me as well.

ButtonMoonLoon · 08/01/2023 15:47

Yes I’m sorry but that does look undercooked to me.

KnickerlessParsons · 08/01/2023 15:58

Undercooked chicken doesn't automatically make you ill. I'm sure you and the baby will both be fine 😊

Suzi888 · 08/01/2023 15:59

You may be ok, I would wait and see if you do feel sick etc. Some countries will serve undercooked or even raw chicken, you may be ok… fingers crossed.
Drink lots of water.

Lumosmaximos · 08/01/2023 17:50

Thank you very much all for looking at it, I for very anxious in the beginning but trying to stay calm and logical. Will ask my midwife to do a toxoxplosmosis test, no idea if I can convince her, fingers crossed. If no luck, will look into private test if I am still anxious by then.

What is your plan if you are positive will it impact your choices?

MrsMitford3 · 08/01/2023 17:59

I did get food poisoning from chicken when I was pregnant-DH not only ate the same meal but the leftovers as well.

Baby is now a strapping 24 year old man.

I'd think you'll be fine-

MrsMitford3 · 08/01/2023 18:00

Also you'd know if you had food poisoning as you'd be ill-they aren't going to run tests with no symptoms are they?

It's the worry that gets to you

Luana1 · 08/01/2023 18:20

It does look raw from the photo, but raw chicken has a very distinctive taste - how did it taste? I guess you will just have to wait and see if you get sick unfortunately, but definitely worth mentioning to your midwife in the meantime. Fingers crossed you will be fine.

Lumosmaximos · 08/01/2023 18:33

@Luana1 it tasted perfectly fine, so I am hoping may it was just this tiny piece that was undercooked. It was also cooked for quite a while (I ate it at friend's and was there while it was being cooked and I'd say it was cooked for a long enough time) so I still hope that even though it looks undercooked it is not and this color is due to some other reason.

@MrsMitford3 it says on nhs website that often toxoplosmosis goes completely asymptomatic.

@Stardustkid from what i read if it is positive I will be offered antibiotics to minimise chances of passing it to the baby.

Is it chicken thigh?

Lumosmaximos · 08/01/2023 18:39

@GoT1904 yes, it was chicken thigh!

Stardustkid · 08/01/2023 18:45

Thigh is often pinker! I’m too paranoid to eat it because of this

SunsetSkies11 · 08/01/2023 18:53

Thigh meat is often tinged pink, even after cooking. It's just darker than breast. But If it was cooked in a hot oven for at least 20 minutes it won't be totally raw. Maybe slightly undercooked.

After 25 minutes in a hot I'd say it couldn't be raw.

Do you know how long it was cooked for?

Are you sure it's thigh meat? Just it Looks like breast fillet to me.

Lumosmaximos · 08/01/2023 18:58

@SunsetSkies11 it was 100% boneless chicken thigh, I saw the packaging.

It wasn't cooked in the oven, it was cooked on a pan with sauce for about 25-30 min. Do you think it would have been enough?

OP posts:
FestiveAF · 08/01/2023 19:01

I’m sure that would have been enough. I don’t think it looks undercooked. I am militant with cooking meat and thighs often scare me because they look underdone but are actually just darker meat. If you know it was cooked on a hob for the correct time then I wouldn’t worry too much.

Anothersoddingname · 08/01/2023 19:08

For that amount of time it will definitely be well cooked.

Coincidence - I've just had exactly the same for my dinner this evening! I love thigh meat. I cooked mine for 10 minutes in a pan on its own, then added sauce for another 10 mins.

If the chicken wasn't cooked separately before the sauce was added, I'd say as long as the sauce was hot enough to simmer, then 25 minutes should be absolutely fine.

Appreciate it does look a little undercooked, it might be the lighting. I wouldn't be worried, but you are, so Speak to your midwife and see what they advise.

b8tes7sw · 08/01/2023 19:12

Looks fine for a chicken thigh. Also I thought toxoplasmosis was from cats/cat poop.

MyMilkshakeScaresAllTheBoys · 08/01/2023 19:14

I was a hungry impatient pregnant lady and ate a lot of chicken that was just barely done like that. All fine here but next time pop it in the microwave a few minutes to get it over the line!

user12345678213 · 08/01/2023 19:15

Under cooked chicken tastes well under cooked, its soft, moist and chewy.... don't ask how i know!

That looks fine for chicken thigh, esp from a packet.

Oblomov22 · 08/01/2023 19:16

Ok which case it's cooked enough. I'm the sauce. It just looks undercooked, but it probably can't be.

Craghopper1 · 08/01/2023 19:17

It looks cooked to me. Cooking at 25 mins would be cooked through.

Cookerhood · 08/01/2023 19:18

You won't get toxoplasmosis from chicken. If you were to get anything it would be salmonella (but it looks fine to me).
