Second pregnancy totally different to first, anyone else had this?

Need to put my mind at ease! In my first pregnancy I was incredibly nauseous and sick up until 20+ weeks. So much so I could barely leave the house most days and there was lots of tears. I didn’t feel normal till I have birth and I wasn’t sure I’d be able to go through it all again with a second.

As time passed the memory fades and now I’m 11 weeks pregnant with pretty much no symptoms. I had a scan at 7 weeks as I was worried but thankfully there was a heartbeat. I have very mild tiredness and that’s it. If I didn’t have a positive test I wouldn’t have a clue I was pregnant. It’s night and day from my first pregnancy.

Anyone had such a different extreme in pregnancies? I know some people feel different but I feel like I’m in a totally different body from my first.

Yes, totally different second time around. Different sex baby - I don't know if that's what made the difference, or just that my body 'knew what it was doing' the second time. Third pregnancy was different again..

I'm only six and a half weeks this time, but a week into MS. It's been so so much milder than the previous two (one boy one girl) so it is a bit worrying. I don't know yet if it's a viable pregnancy, so I'm afraid I can't really help you OP, but just offering solidarity!

You could do a search for previous threads on this topic - I've read quite a few and they're quite reassuring. Lots of people do have very different subsequent pregnancies. Obviously it doesn't mean something isn't wrong for sure, but it is definitely possible to feel totally different and yet everything is fine.

I had this but other way around. Fine first time, second horribly sick till 18 weeks. Both boys though Smile

Yep. First pregnancy I felt nauseous and exhausted for the whole first trimester, but was never actually sick.

This time around (now 22 weeks) I felt totally fine but would randomly vomit most days until about 14 weeks.

Both girls!

Going through it but the opposite to you! With my DD I just felt hungover everyday. This time (currently 11 weeks), I’m on Cyclizine, the morning sickness got that bad. Also eating like I’ll never eat again! So odd how your body can react so differently to the same event, isn’t it?!

NewBabyGirl2020 · 07/01/2023 21:07

Thank you all so much for taking the time to respond! So good to know I’m not the only one out there with this extreme difference. It really is crazy for the body can respond so differently!

Yup DSs pregnancy was lovely and DDs was not!

Eatentoomanyroses · 07/01/2023 21:10

Yes my first I was fine. My second not so much. Sickness, terrible rancid taste in my mouth all the time, acid reflux, blew up with water retention, carpal tunnel. Bloody awful

I had 2 girls. First pregnancy I was sick as a dog and that lasted 6 months. I was tiny as well. 2nd pregnancy no morning sickness at all and ended up huge!

Dinosaurpoopy · 08/01/2023 09:58

Totally different, I had HG with DS1 and was awful, this time with DS2 has been so much easier!

GoT1904 · 08/01/2023 11:06

I've had 3 DC and expecting #4.
DS - awful sickness for first trimester and then glorious second trimester followed by severe SPD.
DD1 - mild sickness and an overall great pregnancy.
DD2 - great pregnancy
DD3 - awful 😂😂 constant sickness, swelling, SPD etc. It's insane how different they can be.
