Weight gain after 1st trimester weight loss?

So far I have lost around 4kg and I am now 12 weeks pregnant. I see according to the NHS you should gain around 10-12kg. Would this target be from my pre-pregnancy weight or from where I am now? Would I need to gain the 10-12 kg or 14-16kg now?

I think this really depends on your current BMI and what you consider your stable weight.
If your weight pre-pregnancy was normal and healthy for you I would assume you may put on 14kg (including the 4kg you’ve lost recently).
If you have a very low BMI now (underweight) you’d be expected to put on more weight, if you have a higher BMI (overweight) you may expect to put on less weight.

This page from Tommys explains it really well: www.tommys.org/pregnancy-information/im-pregnant/weight-management/how-much-weight-should-i-gain-pregnancy

These are rough guideline of what you can expect and not targets to aim for. As long as you’re eating well your body should do the rest for you by growing a baby! Try not to worry too much as all pregnancy’s are different.

4kg is a lot to lose so I assume you were feeling sick/nauseous? I hope you’re feeling on the up now!

You don't have to gain that amount. It's an average number, not a target.

I was horribly ill when I was pregnant, being sick multiple times daily for the first 5 months, so I didn't gain much at all - weight of baby (a bit more than 3 kg), plus weight of placenta, plus a bit of water retention. I weighed less after I had the baby than I had before I got pregnant. With my second I wasn't sick as often and I ate a load of bread/carbs because those were the foods I could stomach, so I obviously gained a lot more.

(also weight of everything else related to baby such as amniotic fluid)

Yes, as pp said, if you've been feeling unwell/being sick then I really hope you're on the mend now!

Eat well, eat plenty and try to relax about it! Flowers

I wouldn't stress too much about your weight gain in terms of kg overall, its all just a guide and everyone is so very different!

I'm 35 weeks now and have put on just over 5kg so far but have regular growth scans (for a completely different reason) and he's measuring pretty much middle of the graph for everything. I havent had any swelling or weight gain anywhere other than my tummy which I imagine makes a difference as some carry a lot in water weight from swelling or gain fat reserves elsewhere

As long as little one is doing well at 20 week scan and midwifes don't have any concerns I would just try to relax and eat as and when you can

Weight loss in the first trimester is normal. Each of my pregnancies I lost half a stone in the first 3 months. Felt very sick and nauseous. Midwife wasn’t worried, said Fetus is a parasite and will take what it needs.

With first baby my doctor stopped telling me what I weighed once I had topped 14st so as not to make me feel worse. I had a huge amount of water. Second baby even worse, I have no idea what I weighed the end , I just know I was really big.

Both were big babies and lots if water.
