Hello all... i am tentatively exploring idea of trying for baby no. 22 but still ave vivid memory of the first time round where my lovely watery homebirth was scuppered by the chance discovery that my amniotic fluid was deemed to be low and had to beat off immediate induction 2 weeks early... Basically wanna know if anyone else knows owt about it???
intend to have homebirth next time but anxious NHS will disallow again??

Baby no.22 - blimey! Assume you mean baby number 2! How low was the AF? They usually give you a number, anything below 5 is considered low. There can be lots of reasons for it - levels drop at the end of pg anyway - sometimes the mum is just dehydrated and drinking lots of water can make the levels rise again. Occasionally though it can be a sign of a more serious problem such as problem with the placenta or baby's kidneys hence the caution. Were there any problems in the end? How did the birth turn out and how was the baby? Can you get hold of your notes or speak to your midwife and find out why they pushed so hard for an induction last time? In any case just because it happened last time doesn't mean it would necessarily happen again. Chances are this time it would be fine, and as it's your second baby you might find they are more willing to support a HB.

shit. duh. baby no.2.
BUt anyway... Thanks. it wasa 4. Maybe my Health authority is nervy (Norfolk) For first time in life I didn't just smile nicely and do what the nice doctor told me. I signed forms to say i understood death of baby was poss outcome and went home to regroup. was hideous! Aggreed to ultra sound and FHM every other day and they went along with me... Thruogh gritted teeth. (Think they wrote 'Loony Lentil Weaver' on my notes at that point)

Incase anyone still 'out there'... i researched it lots and found that Consultants that i spoke to seemed to overreact. keeping them at bay with a stick (not really) we soldiered on til 5 days overdue then consented to a sweep. Baby born pink and had really high APGAR score.8lb9. Incidently her cord was in 2 knots. sounds untrue but midwives all agog... leads me to suspect doctors don't know as much as they (or we)think.
