I’m 14w5d. I have a sharp pain in the top of my right thigh, feels more muscular. It’s worse when I cross my legs (I’m bad for sitting like this). It feels achey and painful. My second pregnancy

Sorry hit enter too soon! Had something similar in my first pregnancy and struggled to walk but was in my third trimester.

I don’t know if it’s specifically SPD or not but I’ve had some muscular pain around my hip and thigh area too. I’ve been going to a physio who said it’s most likely pregnancy related and due to pelvis being more unstable which may have caused surrounding muscles to compensate when walking etc and therefore the muscle pain. It has improved quite a bit since I’ve been seeing the physio though.

Sounds like it could be. Mine started in my inner thighs then ended up my whole thighs, pelvis and lower back within a few weeks to the point I was nearly in tears with every movement. However I have been very lucky and it all eased off after about 6 weeks of it starting somehow! (when I was 33w). Currently 36w and my pelvis, thighs and back still ache, but nothing compared to how they were before and probably just normal later pregnancy aches.

Ask your midwife for a referral to physio if it gets worse.

Symptoms are here if you haven’t looked yet (turning over in bed was the worst one for me)

I'm not sure - If it feels more muscular than joint-related, there's a good chance its not and that it's just normal pregnancy aches and pains. However it could still become SPD over time. We have a lot of weird hormones in our pregnant bodies making everything a bit looser and more achy.

I have PGP (other name for SPD), currently 34 weeks along. Had it in my right side at first, before it moved across to the left and sometimes in the middle, radiating down my legs. It feels very much in the ball join of my hips and in my coccyx area and has agonising at times. The only thing that's helped me is rest, pacing myself, and 5-10 mins of stretching/exercises each day. It started around 16 weeks, reached a peak at 27 weeks ish, but luckily it eased off at about 30 weeks and now is pretty minimal with careful management!

Just make sure you mention it to your midwife, who will be able to give you tips for managing that type of pain. If it turns out you have SPD then they can recommend SPD specific exercises and even physio if you need it.
