Breastfeeding after breast enlargement?

Hi All

I had a breast enlargement a few years ago now and have lost sensitivity in one nipple / part of my breast. Since becoming pregnant (16 weeks) I have had some slight sensitivity change but still wouldn’t say I have feeling, I can just ‘tell’ when I touch my nipple / boob now!

Is there any point in me buying a breast pump before knowing if I’ll be able to breastfeed? I’d like to ideally have the option to breastfeed but have convinced myself I won’t be able to.

I had a breast enlargement and breastfed no problem. I don’t think there is any link to the lack of sensation on breast tissue and being able to breastfeed.

Although I would say a breast pump isn’t necessarily needed straight away anyway and with Amazon prime etc, you could get one pretty quickly if you need one when baby is here!

congratulations :)

Oh great! If you don’t mind me asking did you have under/over the muscle implants? Not sure if it makes a difference either way.

Very true re Amazon!

Hey, mine are under muscle. Always worth a chat with midwife when you next see them too to put your mind at ease!

I fed both my babies for a year plus no real issues and mine were done back
in 2005. Over muscle.

Only slight issue I would say is that because your boobs aren't natural and possibly an unusual shape is that it can take babe a while to get the latch. I used a feeding pillow with my first and also shaped my nipple using my other hand (made a c shape) to help babe latch x

I also had a pump with my first as he wouldn't latch for 10 days. But after that we ditched the pump and never looked back.

Lactation isn't affected by breast enlargement as you still have all your original breast tissue. It's breast reduction that affects your ability to produce milk so you should be ok. Like others have said I wouldn't spend out on a breast pump just yet - if you need it you can get one quickly at the time. There's loads of advice here once baby has arrived if you struggle.

I have had 2 boobs jobs (first under muscle, 2nd over muscle) and I am 4 months into a beautiful and very successful breastfeeding journey with my baby girl.

You'll be fine. good luck. X

Don’t buy the pump until you know you need it as they are expensive. Do your research know what pump you would buy if needed. You can get it on next day delivery. You won’t need it whilst your in hospital as they have them if required.
