Nightie / PJs for after c section

Hi

starting to pack my hospital bag. Having a section so after nightwear for the first night or two that will be comfy and not sit on the wound.

last time I got some cheap nightshirts from primark 2 sizes bigger than normal that were nice and thin (bought in summer), they were not maternity specific but were nice and baggy. Had a look there recently but they were all too thick (likely as it’s currently winter).

can anyone recommend cheap comfy night wear for after a section that is thin (our hospital is roasting!)

ideally not wanting to spend much as last time ended up binning them due to blood stains.

Just wore the hospital gown both times!

I changed into my nighty felt cleaner

Take pjs for when you can move about, nothing worse than having chilly legs & wandering around in a nightie, it's the one thing I wish I had taken with me & I was too far gone mentally to ask my then dh to bring me. Buy some cheap ones from Primark then if they get stained you can bin them.

I bought a cheap button front one from Amazon and it was perfect. Sadly I can't find the exact link now

the first night or two
How long do you expect to stay? Hospitals kick you out the following day! I had a c section at 10pm and was discharged and sent home at 11.30am the next day.

I was really glad I bought some nursing nightgown sets. I ended up pulling them completely down to actually breastfeed because I needed to be able to see really well those first couple of days. They were handy that was easy, but the real beauty was that they were thin and baggy, but came with a little robe for when you wanted to walk around. It was nearly 14 years ago so I don’t even remember where I bought them, but it was a popular, big store. They weren’t the cheapest option I could have found, but the thin fabric plus robe combo was as just perfect.

Get a breast feeding/ maternity nightie which you can wear afterwards too. Wore mine for the next 2 years!

I had two cotton M&S ones with popper buttons when I had DS. They were ideal for feeding and I only threw them out a few years ago (DS is in his late teens 🙈). I've found similar thin cotton ones in primark and peacocks. Big massive pants that cover your scar and don't sit on it are also essential!

Depending on other health conditions you can be kept in longer after a section. I stayed 3 days and was then home. I also liked being able to change from one set to another after 12 hours so I felt fresher. Especially with risk of blood stains/leaky boobs and baby peeing on me too. I think I took about 3 nightdresses in with me.
You might want to keep your hospital gown on until they can remove the catheter.

Asda have these in the sale in all sizes except 8 to 10. Suitable for breastfeeding tooif that's your plan. Long enough to cover your legs moving in and out of bed

I had a cotton dress with buttons which I used after my second section. Was handy for breastfeeding as well. The sort you can wear over a swimsuit on holiday. I paired it with a massive cardigan just in case. I swapped that for wrap dresses when I got home in Jersey type fabrics. I think they'd work straight away as well if you didn't want pjs.

With my first, my mil brought me a white ankle length victorian nightdress. Apparently at least one person who encountered me wandering back from NICU at 4am thought they'd seen a ghost. It was surprisingly practical in that the top half had buttons so breastfeeding was easy. Would have preferred another colour though.

So cheap and not to thick, I had baby in September this is where I got mine from and they was perfect. Example below but look about at other patterns etc

I think I just wore a t shirt with a baggy neck that I pulled down to feed, then once the catheter was out a pair if maternity leggings to shuffle to the dinning room.
24 hour discharge at my hospital, no time for costume changes or getting settled in.

Sorry, my first post wasn’t worded very well for
the question I’m looking to ask. Thanks to all those that responded tho!

does anyone know any shops at the moment that sell thin cotton nighties or thin cotton PJs? I can’t find them in primark etc presumably as it’s the wrong season.

anyone seen anything like this in a shop recently? Thank you 😀

not interested in BF so boob access is not
a concern.

also to the poster asking how many nights I plan on staying in hospital I hope just 1, but I would like nightwear for the first few nights that won’t sit on the scar, regardless of where i will be sleeping! I found last time after a week or so the wound wasn’t as sensitive and I could cope with waistbands a bit more.

You can get blood stains out easily by washing with cold water, warm water sets the protein and it will never come out but cold water just cleans it. I had a huge bleed while in hospital on bedrest before emcs and all my clothing was easily saved (by me in the tiny sink in my hospital room a few days later 😄)

lilichi · 04/01/2023 11:09

I bought a 2 pack of maternity ones from Boohoo that were great for breastfeeding as they had buttons at the front Smile agree that a lightweight robe is great for when you want to walk around to the loo etc!

lilichi · 04/01/2023 11:10

Oops sorry just saw that you're not planning to BF, but the boohoo ones were still comfy anyway!

TheWhiteDoor · 04/01/2023 22:16

Thanks, I’ll take a look on boo hoo. Comfy sounds good to me!
