If anyone found they were dilated before having any other labour signs how long was it before you actually went into labour?

Anyone experienced this?

Or have gone into labour 34/35 weeks? Did they try to stop it or was little one okay?

I had a sweep the day before my due date and I was told I was around 1cm dilated. I had no labour symptoms whatsoever and the Dr who performed it said it didn't mean labour was imminent. Labour started two days later and DS was born the following day.

I felt a pressure inside while on the toilet so out of instinct I felt to check (I know this is an infection risk and just something I did without thinking!) And found my cervix is open for at least a fingertip if not two!, im only 34+5 so wondering if it can be something that happens weeks before labour

Hello, I went to hospital at 35 weeks exactly as tiny bit of spotting. Was already 2cm dilated and baby born about 6 hrs later. However, my waters had already gone (only a trickle so I hadn't realised). Ideally they would have liked to give me steroids to help develop baby's lungs but they didn't have time to do this. Baby was absolutely fine though just a bit jaundiced.

It is normal to be up to about 3cm dilated in the weeks before labour, but you should ask your midwife if you're concerned it's too early. As PP said, if you are at risk of early labour then they would want to give you a steroid injection to help develop baby's lungs.

I'd probably call your midwife in the morning, but if you're concerned now or think there are any other signs of labour, you can phone labour ward now.

with my first I was about 1.5cm dilated a couple of days before my due date (checked before a sweep). Baby didn’t arrive for two more weeks.

I have my midwife tomorrow anyway so I'll talk to her then, I dont think my waters have gone just have a lot of braxton hicks and he feels really low in my pelvis

Was a massive shock to go inside my cervix so wanted to see if it was something I should be concerned about as a stand alone symptom I guess

Is this your first baby? If not have you delivered vaginally before? If so, your cervix never fully closes (and in some cases doesn't if you've had a C section as well). In the absence of contractions or braxton hicks then it's unlikely to be anything to worry about. Have you ever had surgery or any procedure to your cervix that could be a risk factor for it thinning out/dilating prematurely?

I would however call your maternity unit, as they may want to do a speculum examination to visualise the cervix, please don't examine your cervix again, not only is it an infection risk as you say, but the more you touch the cervix the more chance you have of irritating it and possibly causing braxton hicks/tightenings.

I had pre eclampsia in August at 34/35 weeks and had a couple of hours of tightenings. They examined me because I was actively contracting and was found to be 3cms dilated, fully effaced. Everything died down after about a day of contractions and I was eventually induced by ARM at 37+1. It is possible to be dilated with no labour signs.

This is my first and I've never had any surgery or anything to my cervix, I've had a couple of small bleeds from cervix during the pregnancy but the doctors haven't been concerned about it at all and nothing was said at my growth scan last week

I have braxton hicks but that's been fairly common the past few days anyway so not new

I will bring it up to the midwife tomorrow although I'm a little embarrassed that I didn't think about what I was doing before I just reached to feel 🤦‍♀️
