Hi I have found out I'm 5 weeks pregnant. I work in a high risk job with the risk of being hit or kicked. The job involves accessing a hydropool with the water temp at 36°.
Should I tell my boss I'm pregnant this early in. I had a miscarriage last year so I'm a little nervous.

Thank you

Absolutely tell your boss, pregnancy is a protected characteristic. You need to be safe OP. Many congrats.

Yes. Clearly the job comes with specific risks and telling gives work a chance to make ammendments to your job, to better safeguard the pregnancy.

AnneLovesGilbert · 03/01/2023 17:21

Yes. You need a risk assessment asap to keep yourself and your baby safe.

Twizbe · 03/01/2023 17:21

Yes.

Given the risks in your role you need a proper risk assessment done.

Your job has a duty of care to you.

You can always talk to HR in confidence if you'd rather.

Congratulations on your pregnancy.

I’m an ex prison officer and in my last pregnancy, I had to tell work at around a similar time, for obvious reasons.
When you tell them, protections come into play and they can risk assess your job accordingly. I’d definitely tell them sooner rather than later.

@Milkyway18 congratulations on your pregnancy x
Yes defo tell your manager.
I'm glad i did as i was suffering from dizziness and had to take time off sick, my sick went on record as pregnancy related.

I have worked in similar sounding environments. You need a risk assessment written for you with decisions made whether you could work in a safer environment.
