My weird love for my hairdryer

Hello all …. Here’s a weird one for you.

Ever since I was a child I’ve had this weird almost obsession with my hairdryer. Everything about it really… the white noise it makes and the warm air it blows out, it just seems to relax me and calm my mind. It started when I was young, my mum used to get ready for a night out and I would run into her room and lay on her bed watching her get ready and blow drying her hair, eventually I’d fall asleep.

This has carried on through my adult life and I’d say I use the hairdryer much more than the average person. I often just chill on my bed with the hairdryer on low setting, having a quick scroll through my phone or reading abit of my book for 10 minutes, or getting in from a long day out and just need instantly warming up … so outcomes the hairdryer lol

My question is can my unborn baby who is currently 16 weeks hear this sound through my tummy ? And in later stages during pregnancy, like when it can hear your voice, will it be able to really hear the sound through my tummy? Could there be any way the baby will be dependent on the sound almost like I am. Are there any positive or negatives to exposing an unborn baby to certain sounds before it is born?

Thank you for reading my weird post 😄

I love my hairdryer too. I feel soothed drying my hair each morning and after a cold dog walk i like a warm blast to dry my damp hair and make me feel calm. I also love getting my hair dried at the hairdresser. I don't imagine it will harm your baby one bit. They like white noise.

The womb is already full of white noise, so the baby wil already be used to that sound really. But I wouldn't leave a hair dryer running to create that sound- you can get a white noise machine for baby x

i thought i was the only person who did this! the noise and warm air is so soothing isn’t it? i found the sound of a hairdryer sent DS to sleep when he was a baby very quickly, so maybe he could hear it before he was born? either way i’m sure it’s a lovely sound for your baby as well as for you 😊

also seconding the suggestion of a white noise machine once baby is here - amazon do some good ones for around 20 quid, DS is at school now and it still helps him settle to sleep.

I used to turn on the hair dryer to get my baby to fall asleep, I'd lay him in his basket and turn it on(obviously didn't point it at him) and he'd be asleep in a few minutes, worked up until he was about 4 months he loved it 🙂 hoover also worked
