Vegetarian pregnancy - I've struggled with eating for some time( various reasons) but I want to try and develop better healthier eating habits, especially now that I am expecting.

I wanted to ask if others would be able to suggest a good vegetarian recipe book?

The green roasting tin - by Rukmini Iyer is my favourite.
If you’re near a library, you could browse veg cookbooks too for inspiration.

Not strictly vegetarian, but this book is really good and has loads of veggie recipes in. I'm a vegetarian and have made lots from it 🙂

Hey Cabbage88,

I’m vegan and currently 9 and a bit weeks pregnant. In normal times I’m eat super healthy, and really can’t stand “junk food” but since the dreaded hyperemesis gravidarum has taken me over I can only seem to eat really plain, but unfortunately pretty low quality food. Ive eaten crisps and cereals today. Everything else I tried I threw up sadly. Anyway, really good you’re going for the heathy options, can’t wait to go back to it.

To my mind, Anna Jones is the queen of veggie cooking. I love all her recipes and she has a number of books: The Modern Way to Eat and The Modern way to cook are both excellent. Her writing style is a bit breathy, but other than that, really good.

Simon Hopkinson's The Vegetarian Option is a wonderful book.

The New Vegetarian, Alice Hart
Green, Elly Pear
Fresh India, Meera Sodha

I also second pps' recommendations for The Green Roasting Tin and anything by Anna Jones.

Deliciously Ella - although vegan and not just vegetarian her books are wonderful and my husband who eats meat enjoys what I cook from them.

‘Bosh’ Is my favourite at the moment
Tescos also have great recipe on their website

If you’re looking for high protein and happy to make it yourself have you tried SEITAN
75% protein if you make it yourself
My sons adore it
You can throw it into anything and that protein content is amazing. The bought seitan doesn’t have as much as it’s processed

The other amazing thing is suddenly as a veggie there’s something to chew. I’ve spent 40plus years with nothing to really chew. Seitan is really chewy.
