Hashimotos hypothyroid - 3rd pregnancy after 2 losses

Hello

I've just found out I am pregnant again for the 3rd time this year after 2 miscarriages. Trying for our first. I was diagnosed with underactive thyroid after pushing for a blood test after my second miscarriage. Just found out today I've got thyroid antibodies so presumably hashimotos. I've had my Levo increased to 75mg and a blood test yesterday showed my TSH is 2.04 and T4 is 19.5. Thyroglobulin antibodies are 156 U/ml. I've been referred to endo antenatal clinic.

Just so worried about the antibodies causing another loss. Any success stories out there to give me some hope?

Thanks so much

I'm so sorry for your losses and am keeping everything crossed for you for this pregnancy! I was diagnosed with Hashimoto a couple of decades ago and had a loss earlier this year. Currently just over 14 weeks pregnant and all going well so far, so there is hope!

It's great they have upped your dose and referred you to an endocrinologist. The main one they will want to keep an eye on is the TSH which is alright at 2.04! If you can, and if that isn't already the plan, try to get a blood test about every 4 weeks to keep an eye on levels. How far along are you now?

I also try to eat about 3 or 4 brazil nuts everyday for the selenium in them and I take a pregnancy vitamin that has slightly lower iodine, to not agitate the Hashi too much.

I don't know whether this helps at all. Wishing you all the very best and that this is a sticky one!

I'm sorry to hear about your miscarriages. Why do you think the Hashis antibodies could cause a loss? I've never been told this.

I am 9 months pregnant and have Graves disease in remission and active Hashimotos and they only tested for Graves antibodies at 8 months pregnant. Nobody ever mentioned the Hashimotos antibodies being a potential issue and I wasn't re-tested in pregnancy. My endocrinologist is very thorough so if there was any potential issue there I'm sure she would have tested for it.

I get my bloods done every month (just TFTs rather than antibodies) and seeing as they've been in range throughout the pregnancy nobody seems even slightly concerned. I'm sure you'll be fine if you're having your bloods done regularly.

H OP, sorry to hear about your losses. congratulations on your pregnancy. I'm in a very similar situation, currently pregnant after a miscarriage earlier this year. Have had 2 healthy pregnancies previous to this, one of them I defo had thyroid antibodies and baby was fine. I've started taking low dose Naltrexone for the past few months and my TSH has come down from 3.71 to 2.2. have to get it retested again next week so fingers crossed. Also on 100mcg eltroxin. It was a fertility doctor why recommended low dose Naltrexone to me. I'm tried to reduce gluten 🙄 and am taking selenium supplements. Havnt had my antibodies tested since I've started doing this 3 months ago. I'm nearly afraid to test them because I know it'll just worry me if they're high again. Antibodies were over 200 when I miscarried but they were also around that when I had a healthy pregnancy. So I really don't know 🤷🏼 but I've heard of women having antibodies over 1000 and having perfectly healthy pregnancies. As long as TSH is in range it makes a big difference (mine unfortunately had increased to over 4 when I miscarried) and I'll always wonder if that had something to do with it.

Hello, I have thyroid antibodies and currently on levothyroxine.

I had one missed miscarriage in 2019, followed by two chemical pregnancies. I then fell pregnant with my now 2 year old and am currently 8 months with baby number 2...i was referred to endocrinology after the losses, however by the time I spoke to them I was pregnant with my 2 year old; they increased my thyroxine and then it was monitored throughout..

For this pregnant I was told to increase thyroxine by 25mcg, then again monitored with blood tests.

Hope all goes well for you xx

Hi OP, my DW has hashimotos and had a successful pregnancy for our DD. She was monitored monthly and they did increase her thyroxine, but no issues. Wishing you all the best.

Hi Soma,

My understanding is that it's to do with rising TSH and if it's too high it is linked to miscarriage (although I'm prepared to be corrected if I'm wrong). I don't know enough about thyroid antibodies though to comment on that, I also have Graves Disease, my endo is pretty crap but did get a blood test ordered as soon as I found out I was pregnant, I was worried I'd dipped to underactive and concerned about the TSH but it was still in range.

OP I hope your endo is reassuring and puts your mind at ease xx
