As the tile says I've totally messed up these passed couple of days I'm feeling so guilty has anyone done this? This is the first time I've had a major slip up in 6 weeks since being diagnosed and I'm scared to even check my levels I've ate way more chocolate than I should of and now I'm just feeling like a failure so bad

Don't worry OP, what's done is done.
Make things easier for yourself in the next week by gifting any tempting foods to friends or neighbours and set yourself some goals for the rest of this week in terms of time walking or step count.
You can do this!

Cut yourself some slack and climb back on the wagon!

Sounds like you are doing really well if that is your first slip up in 6 weeks.

Choc2022 · 27/12/2022 01:38

ME TOO!! I've also just not been checking regularly! From tomorrow I will 100% get back on it. Too much temptation around me.

Hellno44 · 27/12/2022 01:41

Get back on the wagon tomorrow.

Mistletoeandwinee · 27/12/2022 01:43

I had my first high reading today because my DH did the Xmas food shop and bought the wrong things. I've also missed a few readings because I've totally forgot with having no routine or regular meals the last two days. Just constant stacking on leftovers and buffet food. Relatives have also bought us enough chocolate to feed the 5000 despite them knowing I'm diabetic...thanks. I'm going to try and do it properly from tomorrow when things get back normal.

I didn't do a reading the whole day yesterday - I'm just sick of testing if I'm honest and my body and fingers needed a rest from all the finger pricking. I feel your pain! Onwards and upwards, we can get climb back on...

Sorry to sound harsh but your baby doesn't have a choice - for you to 'fall off' the wagon has serious potential consequences. Excess or restricted growth etc just for some chocolate?

You need to fully monitor your levels appropriately & eat within the guidance. There are loads of blogs and websites about what you can eat with GD that doesn't spike your sugars - maybe start there?

@PoinsettiaPosturing the OP is looking for support and reassurance, not made to feel more guilty. She can hardly go back in time and change what she ate yesterday can she? She has done well for 6 weeks, one day is not going to cause any harm. I likely had GD for weeks before I got diagnosed and was eating terribly!

Very well said!

A slip up isn’t going to cause any serious harm. I say this as a type 1 diabetic on my second pregnancy. I have had many highs and lows (probably much higher than you would like to believe @yvonneb13 !). However, my overall control is good and doctors are happy with me. First baby was born healthy and very small.

Not suggesting this shouldn’t be taken seriously as it is ofcourse very serious. However, gestational diabetes is really difficult and you are human. Also, most women with GD have probably had it for several weeks before diagnosis anyway. One blip won’t make a difference 😀

@PoinsettiaPosturing , I’m not sure if you intended to be so but to me your response was unnecessary and unhelpful.

Cantbebotheredwithchores · 27/12/2022 18:13

@Sallyh87 having diabetes in pregnancy also causes babies to be very small due to it affecting the placenta. My daughter had IUGR due to having GD.
OP mam guilt never stops, have you joined the gestational diabetes UK group on Facebook? Lots of good recipes for GD including chocolate etc.
